I know this is a linux error and have run the repair disc several times and no fix. Has anyone else ran into this issue and know how to fix this? I have important data on the HDD that I do not want to recreate otherwise I would have just did a clean install. Any help would be appreciated! I also would like to suggest you test the issue in Clean Boot to check if any third party software conflicts. If the issue persists, would you please post the screenshot of the symptom for analyzing? For the detailed steps, please refer to the following link: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproui/thread/4fc10639-02db-4665-993a-08d865088d65 Regards, Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Inconsistent Booting (Random ERROR 16: Inconsistent File Structure) Started by jazzman22 , Jul 14 2008 04:23 PM Please log in to reply 14 replies to this topic #1 jazzman22 jazzman22 Members 7 posts Posted 14 July 2008 - 04:23 PM I'm a gadget nerd and I've got a number of small embedded devices that run XP Embedded and I was hoping to make maintenance on them a bit easier. I made a little mini-linux that is capable of doing emergency recovery work and backing up the device to a remote server. The mini linux is basically a kernel (2.6.16) and an initrd ramdisk (ext2 filesystem image that is https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/9fcd6713-8c2f-414a-a540-b655463f03ed/error-16-inconsistent-filesystem-structure?forum=w7itprogeneral gzip compressed...). I tried using grldr to give me the option of booting into the mini linux from the ntldr boot.ini file and it seems to work, but it's very inconsistent. It will boot into the mini-linux ok, but occasionally it will just hang with a kernel panic stating the initrd ramdisk image is corrupt (err=1 or err=2... both report checksum issues with the initrd file). So I tried uncompressing the ramdisk image to see what would happen. Now I occasionally get http://reboot.pro/topic/5185-inconsistent-booting-random-error-16-inconsistent-file-structure/ ERROR 16: Inconsistent File Structure when I try and load the kernel from GRLDR. I'm sure the initrd and kernel files are file, because if I then copy them to a USB stick with syslinux it boots fine. If I use the kernel and initrd image to PXE boot a device it works fine. For some reason I get inconsistent behavior with GRLDR, and I can only assume it has to do with reading the data from an NTFS partition. I can't repartition the devices and so I don't really have any other method of booting into the mini-linux (I want the mini-linux ON the device, not on a usb stick). Has anyone else seen this before? Any ideas what may be the problem? Which version of grub4dos are you using? If you did not already use it, try the 14-05-2008 version. Also can you post the entries you have in menu.lst?A long shot, but you may try using kexec-loader:http://www.boot-land...?showtopic=4636Another idea, if it works with syslinux, why not using it chainloaded from grub4dos?jaclaz Back to top #3 jazzman22 jazzman22 Members 7 posts Posted 14
