I downloaded the core package and the package for the c++ language(gcc-g++-4.4.1.tar.bz2). I then unpacked first the core package and then the second one in the same directory. The ./configure command was run with the CFLAGS=-m64 parameter. When I issued the make command this is what I get at some point: /usr/local/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/../lib/libc.so when searching for -lc /usr/local/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/../lib/libc.a when searching for -lc /usr/local/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libc.so when searching for -lc /usr/local/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /usr/lib/libc.a when searching for -lc /usr/local/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lc collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[5]: *** [libgcc_s.so] Error 1 make[5]: Leaving directory `/media/Data/Work/gcc-4.4.1/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/32/libgcc' make[4]: *** [multi-do] Error 1 make[4]: Leaving directory `/media/Data/Work/gcc-4.4.1/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/libgcc' make[3]: *** [all-multi] Error 2 make[3]: Leaving directory `/media/Data/Work/gcc-4.4.1/x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu/lib

I followed the instructions here and here. For the source I use gcc-4.6.0.tar.bz2. I installed all prerequisites and built the objdir out of the srcdir tree like the instructions.
