Net View System Error 6118 Has Occurred
7 IT Pro > Windows 7 Networking Question 0 Sign in to vote Hi, system error 6118 windows 10 I am trying to get a WDTV box to detect my network shares on a server 2008 R2 system that system error 6118 has occurred windows 10 is part of a workgroup. While attempting various fixes I found that the net view command gives error 6118, but I am able to navigate to the shares both through explorer and by UNC.

The net view command gives the same result from both the server and a win 7 machine on the workgroup. All computers on the workgroup run windows 7 except the server which is running 2008 R2. Please understand these two method is based on different mechanism. Since this kind of issue occur if you enable a firewall on the network connection that you use for your home or office network. By default, a firewall closes the ports that are used for file and print sharing to prevent Internet computers from connecting to file and print shares on your computer. To resolve this behavior, use a firewall only for network connections that you use to connect directly to the Internet. For example, use a firewall on a single computer that is connected to the Internet directly through a cable modem, a DSL modem, or a dial-up modem. If you use the same network connection to connect to both the Internet and a home or office network, use a router or firewall that prevents Internet computers from connecting to the shared resources on the home or office computers.
