I have setup routing and remote error 806 vpn windows 10 access on Server 2008. I'm trying to use PPTP. I have enabled PPTP and GRE on firewalls on both the server and client. What I think might be the problem is my allow both outgoing and incoming protocol 47 (gre) router. It is a Netgear WGR614v10. I have read that the SPI firewall needs to be disabled. But I do not see this firewall in the settings. What I see is a Disable Port Scan and DoS Protection option. But when I disable this it still doesn't work. But I'm not even sure if this is the problem. I feel like I have exhausted all

But the long response on the netgear support didn't work either. If you can think of anything else let me know. Sometimes, poor connection can cause this issue too. 3) You may need to updated firmware on a router or firewall. 4) The VPN server may not be able to get IP from DHCP for the VPN client. So, you may want to re-configure VPN host networking settings. For XP pro http://www.howtonetworking.com/vpnissues/error806.htm VPN host, go to the Properties of the VPN>Network, check Specify TCP/IP address and Allow calling computer to specify its own IP address, and uncheck Assign TCP/IP addresses automatically using DHCP. 5) Make sure other secure software blocks your access, for example, if you use Norton secure software, you may need to add the remote client's IP so that the client can access. 6) If your VPN running on a Windows RRAS with NAT enabled, you may want to check the NAT settings. Join Now I'm setting up a new https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/550780-setting-up-vpn-server-error-806 VPN server on Windows Server 2008. I added and configured the role, allowed PPTP traffic http://serverfault.com/questions/371947/pptp-connection-fails-with-errors-800-806 through the firewall as well. When attempting to connect from another Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7 box, they both get stuck on 'verifying username and password' and eventually end with error code 806. I tried the same PPTP connection from a Macbook and it worked! Any idea on what I'm doing wrong? I am going to assume you have port 1723 open on your firewall correct? You say the Mac connects fine. What are you using for your AV software? I know you have it disabled and your firewall disabled, but sometimes firewall instances in AV software are still left running. Does the firewall on the other network allow this type of traffic? The server is behind a firewall that has TCP1723 open as well as GRE. Other clients at our office are able to connect just fine. Our office is behind a Juniper SSG5-Serial firewall, but all outgoing traffic is allowed, and multiple other clients are able to connect to VPN servers without issues. I've also setup a completely different VPN server on another network outside of our office. The functioning clients connect just fine - the Server 2008 R2 machine doesn't. Thus it's definitely a problem with this machine in particular. I've rebooted it. I've disabled the firewall, no dice on either. I've run PPTPSRV and PPTPCLNT on the server/client and they're able to communicate perfectly - indicating there's no problem using neither TCP1723 nor GRE. The Server 2008 R2 machine is also running as a VPN server itself (incoming connection) and that's working perfectly. We have the issues no matter if there are active incoming connections or not. I'm not sure what my next debugging step would be; any suggestions? EDIT: The event log on the server has the following warning from RasMan: A connection between the VPN server and the VPN client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx has been established, but the VPN connection cannot be completed. The most common cause for this is that a firewall or router between the VPN server and the VPN client is not configured to allow Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) packets (protocol 47).
