to work for a while but keep getting the 806 error. I have setup routing and remote access on Server 2008. I'm trying to use PPTP. http://www.quickcomputertips.com/2014/02/pptp-vpn-error-806-in-win-7.html I have enabled PPTP and GRE on firewalls on both the server and client. What I think might be the problem is my router. It is a Netgear WGR614v10. I have read that the SPI firewall needs to be disabled. But I do not see this firewall in the settings. What I see is https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/74515e17-c64c-4296-a82c-68af4fa1b1f7/vpn-error-806?forum=winservergen a Disable Port Scan and DoS Protection option. But when I disable this it still doesn't work. But I'm not even sure if this is the problem. I feel like I have exhausted all my options. But I'm sure there is something I'm missing. Thanks in advance! TECHNOLOGY IN THIS DISCUSSION Join the Community! Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now I'm setting up a new error 806 VPN server on Windows Server 2008. I added and configured the role, allowed PPTP traffic through the firewall as well. When attempting to connect from another Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7 box, they both get stuck on 'verifying username and password' and eventually end with error code 806. I tried the same PPTP connection from a Macbook and it worked! Any idea on what I'm doing wrong? I am going to assume you have port 1723 open on your firewall correct? You say the Mac connects fine. What are you using for your AV software? I know you have it disabled and your firewall disabled, but sometimes firewall instances in AV software are still left running. Does the firewall on the other network allow t

Router forwards incoming VPN traffic to the correct LAN address. This setup has worked flawlessly since we started with Comcast 3 years ago. No recent changes to the VPN server or router. In the last week or so we can no longer complete a VPN connected into the office. The intial connection request is sent to the VPN machine and the client side gets to the 'verifying username & password' step and then gets either MS error 806 or 807...I think both have to do with GRE being blocked or interrupted. I've rebooted all equipment and tested the VPN machine from the LAN and all works as it should. I've also verified that no settings have changed in the router. I can only point to the gateway or other Comcast equipment. I know VPN is not purposely blocked, but is there something Comcast can check on their end to verify nothing is out of whack? 0 Kudos All Forum Topics Previous Topic Next Topic 1 REPLY VBSSP-RICH Trusted Forum Contributor Options Mark as New Bookmark Subscribe Subscribe to RSS Feed Highlight Accept as Solution Print Email to a Friend Report Inappropriate Content 12-09-2014 08:30 AM 12-09-2014 08:30 AM Re: PPTP VPN returning GRE error (806 & 807) Hello PLMC and welcome,Please let us know which Comcast Gateway (CG) you are using? Is your IPV6 settings in your CG enabled and correct and is your current VPN server/router able to handle IPV6?CGs are now running a dual IPV4 and IPV6 stack and depending how your CG initializes will determinehow your routing to you network equipment and applications is processed. If you can go intothe CG feature settings you can
