but keep getting the 806 error. I have setup routing and remote access on Server 2008. I'm trying to use PPTP. I have enabled PPTP and GRE on http://www.quickcomputertips.com/2014/02/pptp-vpn-error-806-in-win-7.html firewalls on both the server and client. What I think might be the problem is my router. It is a Netgear WGR614v10. I have read that the SPI firewall needs to be disabled. But I do not see this firewall in the settings. What I see is a Disable Port Scan and DoS Protection option. But when https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/74515e17-c64c-4296-a82c-68af4fa1b1f7/vpn-error-806?forum=winservergen I disable this it still doesn't work. But I'm not even sure if this is the problem. I feel like I have exhausted all my options. But I'm sure there is something I'm missing. Thanks in advance! So I have a VPN access to a network. but it doesn't work when I use my phone as a hotspot, but only on a specific machine, a Fujitsu T730 (Atheros AR2987). It runs a fully updated Windows 7 Pro. On a "normal" router it works just fine. The hotspot works on other machines, it's only on this one it doesn't work. I've tried Android and iOS, and protocol 47 (gre) the IP ranges are not conflicting with each other. The error I get is 806, saying this: Error Description: 806: The VPN connection between your computer and the VPN server could not be completed. The most common cause for this failure is that at least one Internet device (for example, a firewall or a router) between your computer and the VPN server is not configured to allow Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) protocol packets. If the problem persists, contact your network administrator or Internet Service Provider. Possible Cause: PPTP uses GRE (Generic Route Encapsulation) protocol to encapsulate the VPN payload in a secure manner. This error generally comes when some firewall in path between client and server blocks GRE Protocol (i.e. IP protocol number 47). Possible Solution: Allow both outgoing and incoming Protocol 47 (GRE) on any in between firewalls. If that is not possible, deploy SSTP based VPN tunnel on both VPN server and VPN client – that allows VPN connection across firewalls, web proxies and NAT.Click to expand... The machine is clean, we only use it for one thing and that is troubleshooting/installing measuring equipment in electrical installations. I've never used VPN's before, I have no idea where to even begin. It can't be firewalls/routers/switches or something because it works with other machines. Or at least I am assuming this. So any ideas are welcome! EDIT: Uhh, the problem might be some software strangeness, as I know have connection p

Additionally this article explains how to fix the ‘Validate server certificate’ by overwriting the rasphone.pbk file. Purpose A while back, I ran across a client that had a VPN utilizing PPTP. The user I was trying to set up was receiving an Error 806. After a bit of troubleshooting, it was discovered that the user could connect to the VPN with most computers, however when trying to connect via their designated machine, they were receiving an Error 806. For this specific client, they required that their users utilize PEAP Authentication. Additionally, the client did not want to validate the server certificate. Machines that were validating correctly had the ‘Validate server certificate’ option unchecked. However, the problem machine had the box checked. Even after unchecking and reapplying settings, the box would recheck itself. The Cause of Error 806 The underlying cause of this issue was due to the rasphone.pbk file not saving correctly. This file contains saved dial up information (in this case VPN settings). The most common causes I have seen of this file not functioning correctly are due to a Window image being used that already had issues or if a Window’s upgrade was performed. It did not matter if it was Home, Professional, Ultimate, or Enterprise or any combination of 32 bit or 64 bit, the only consistency viewed was that a Window’s image was used. If you would like more information on the rasphone.pbk file, visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/284269. Although the exact cause of the rasphone.pbk
