least one Internet device (for example, a firewall or a router) http://www.earthvpn.com/faq-items/vpn-error-code-806/ between your computer and the VPN server is not configured https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/550780-setting-up-vpn-server-error-806 to allow Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) protocol packets. If the problem persists, contact your network administrator or Internet Service Provider. Possible Cause: PPTP uses GRE (Generic Route Encapsulation) protocol to encapsulate the VPN payload in a secure manner. This error 806 error generally occurs when some firewall on the path between client and server blocks GRE Protocol (i.e. IP protocol number 47). Possible Solution: Allow both outgoing and incoming Protocol 47 (GRE) on any in between firewalls. If that is not possible, deploy OPENVPN based VPN tunnel on the VPN protocol 47 (gre) client – that allows VPN connection across firewalls, web proxies and NAT. Join Now I'm setting up a new VPN server on Windows Server 2008. I added and configured the role, allowed PPTP traffic through the firewall as well. When attempting to connect from another Windows Server 2008 or Windows 7 box, they both get stuck on 'verifying username and password' and eventually end with error code 806. I tried the same PPTP connection from a Macbook and it worked! Any idea on what I'm doing wrong? I am going to assume you have port 1723 open on your firewall correct? You say the Mac connects fine. What are you using for your AV software? I know you have it disabled and your firewall disabled, but sometimes firewall instances in AV software are still left running. Does the firewall on the other network allow this type of traffic? Chris 0 Sonora OP Mike.H Jul 30, 2014 at 8:09 UTC 1723 is open and pointing to my VPN server, outgoing ports are not filtered. We are using Vipre antivirus, there is no software firewall. 0 Datil OP Chris75 Jul 30, 2014 at 8:12 UTC As test, what happens if you uninstall Vipre? 0 Serrano OP sublimedyl Jul 30, 2014 at 8:17 UTC Chris75 wrote: This has something to do with a firewall.
