T3 AMC JVMJ9VM015W initialization error max java heap size KT3_JVM_OPTIONS LDR_CNTRL 71AMCON-CONF; 71AMCON-TS; 71GEN-TS Technote (troubleshooting) Problem(Abstract) Setting a higher max java heap size value for the AMC (Application Management Console) agent, using KT3_JVM_OPTIONS in t3.ini file, AMC t3 agent fails to start with JVMJ9VM015W Initialization errors Symptom The AMC (t3) agent fails to start with error messages as seen below in ${CANDLEHOME}/${HOSTNAME}_t3_*.log ] after setting for example: KT3_JVM_OPTIONS=-Xmx1024m in t3.ini file ${HOSTNAME}_t3_*.log error message: kt2sjni.cpp,108,"RAS1_JVM_Printf") JVMJ9VM015W Initialization error for library j9gc23(2): Failed to instantiate heap; 1G requested kt2sjni.cpp,506,"SimpleJNI::loadVM") Error: Calling CreateJavaVM failed. rc=-4 Cause The LDR_CNTRL (here for example LDR_CNTRL=MAXDATA=0x10000000 was set in t3.ini file) limits the amount of the memory used by the agent process. (for example : KT3_JVM_OPTIONS=-Xmx1024m). In this case the LDR_CNTRL=MAXDATA=0x10000000 limits the maximum Java heap size to 512 MB. Environment AIX Resolving the problem In order to set higher maximum Java heap sizes like for example 1024 MB, configure maximum Java heap size for AMC kt3agent process as described in this technote : http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21408710 Update or add, for example, these variables to the t3.ini file, and restart the AMC agent to put the changes into effect: LDR_CNTRL=MAXDATA=0x40000000 KT3_JVM_OPTIONS=-Xmx1024m The LDR_CNTRL can be used to limit the amount of memory used by any 64-bit process, which could potentially grow to a huge size causing paging and other problems. If you set the Java heap size to a lower value, (for example KT3_JVM_OPTIONS=-Xmx384m) OutOfMemory conditions in ${CANDLEHOME}/${HOSTNAME}_t3_*.log are likely: JVMDUMP006I Processing Dump Event "systhrow", detail "java/lang/OutOfMemoryError" - Please Wait. The behavior of the AMC agent can continue to function, however the application data that is displayed by the AMC agent stops and the generated application objects go into an offline state. As soon as the AMC agent is restarted, the TEP AMC workspace begins to populate with data as the respons

Unanswered question This question has not been answered yet. I ran the sample batch job RUN50 on Z/OS 1.6 and get http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21502774 the error "failed, no JVM created. RC=106". Would you please have a look and let me know what the problem was. Below is the trace from the job. Thanks.
