When the code runs, I get the error "Error: uncaught exception: Error calling method on NPObject!" From my day's worth of googling around, this seems to be be a security matter, and I've done everything I can find, but the error still comes up. Some details: *

This happens with both Flash 9 and Flash 10 players. * The swf is in the same domain as the php file that loads it and that contains the javascript that's trying to call the Flash function. * I'm using sfwobject2.2 to load the swf file, like so: var flashvars = {};
var params = {};
var params = {menu: false, bgcolor: "#ffffff", allowScriptAccess: "always"};
swfobject.embedSWF("/path/to/swf", "id", "480", "310", "9.0.0", null, flashvars, params, attributes); My Flash movie is doing the allowDomain thing, correctly as far as I can tell: Security.allowDomain("www.mydomain.com"); * I know that the ExternalInterface.addCallback is set up properly -- when I disable it, I get a "no such function" error instead of the NPObject complaint. This is driving me completely crazy, and I just can't figure out how to correct it. Any advice out there? javascript flash externalinterface share|improve this question asked Sep 13 '09 at 18:45 Jim Miller Did you ever find an answer? Javascript, you probably have. It can be pretty frustrating the first time you see this error since it's not very informative. In my experience, this happened when I was trying to communicate with actionscript via Javascript using ExternalInterface call. http://www.wrichards.com/blog/2009/02/error-calling-method-on-npobject/ The problem was sure enough a security issue with Flash. The solution for "Error calling method on NPObject!" is to add: System.security.allowDomain("mydomain.com"); Add this to the Flash file you're communicating with. Keep in mind that www.mydomain.com is different from http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?95598-RESOLVED-NPObject mydomain.com to Flash. Not everyone is a web developer or programmer like you. I've searched numerous sites about this error and it seems different for everyone. Uninstall/reinstall of Chrome didn't work. It can't be centralized to Firefox and I know this because I don't HAVE Firefox, let alone use it. IE is crap, so I've been using Chrome. Hello all. I am simply trying to use javascript to SetVariable to a flash document, however whenever I try I get "Error calling method on NPObject" (using Firefox, error may be different in other browsers). I can't find a THING on this (nothing relevant anyway). The relevant line is "flash.SetVariable(var_name, var_val);" (flash is a var containing the document.getElementById. Any ideas? It shouldn't be the function name, because I took the code (and dunction name) from a working example (this is for a production product, so I will rewrite the example code once I get it actually working). When I use this line: Code: if(document.GWFlash) document.GWFlash.SetVariable(\"time\", \"1\"); I get an error. This tells me that the object EXISTS (and is definetly the intended flash object) however, for some reason SetVariable will not work.... Anyone have any ideas? Could it have to do with my flash? As always, help is appreciated EDIT: So, I continued to work on it a bit, and the perplexity of the problem increases: I tried to use an example of the web, and that worked perfectly. I then created a text object on my pla
