Here is a possible problem: If the file is greater than 4 Gb in size, i.e. 4,000,000 Kb in size, and the error copying file or folder unspecified error target disk was formatted using the file format FAT32, you can't have any file that size on the target drive. That's why it won't copy, but the idiots at Microsoft don't tell you that in the error message. Instead, they send you on a wild goose chase deleting disk space. To find out if the target disk is formatted as FAT32, click My Computer right click the drive look at the Properties, which should say FAT32 or NTFS If this helped, please email me! occurs even though if you have more free space; then your File System of your Hard Drive (C:/D:/E:/F: etc) must be changed to NTFS from FAT32 in order to avoid this error. Method I : There is http://jai-fixyourpc.blogspot.com/2011/09/error-cannot-copy-filenot-enough-free.html an inbuilt option in Windows XP/Vista/7 OS to convert your File System to NTFS from FAT32. Click Start > Run > type "cmd" and hit Enter. This will open the command prompt window. If you want to convert the http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/249724-32-error-copying-files-external-drive drive D: to NTFS, type the cmd below exactly without quotes. "convert d: /fs:ntfs"and hit Enter key. When prompted enter the volume label. Method II : You can also change the File System to NTFS in XP/Vista/7 by using error copying a Freeware called "EaseUS Partition Master - Home Edition" . Free download the copy of EaseUS Partition Master Home Edition from the link below. http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm Install this freeware in your PC and launch it. I have a WD Passport 320GB External Drive and it shows 298GB Available. Ok fine. Now it says I still have 185GB used and 112GB free. But here is the problem, I can not copy any more files to it because it has an error that says "Cannot copy *****.*** There is not enough disk space. Delete one or more file to free disk space, and then try again. To free up space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click Disk Cleanup." I can not figure out how I am out of disk space. I should have pleant enough to copy whatever I want to. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. More about : error copying files external drive RomDA_73 7 May 2009 19:14:32 IIRC, WD Passports have software that allow the owner to "write-protect" the drive. Maybe that's what happened? Can you also try the drive on another computer? You can also check if there's really space left by going to Windows Disk Management (Windows+R, type "diskmgmt.msc", Press Enter). Last resort is to see if you can back-up the drive, format it, and try again. jmcbride1983 7 May 2009 22:30:59 Well as for the write-protect, I have never set that and I use this drive on a daily basis. I back up all my movies, games, music, etc. I just never had it this full. Disk Management shows that there is 298.02GB Total and 112.71GB Free(37%). I am stumped. This makes no sense to me. I am going to contact WD today and see what they say. If you think of anything else, I will be open for any advice. Thanks.
