Copying and pasting from the exact same server works with regular RDP (mstsc.exe). Everything seems to be set up fine in both, including clipboard and drive sharing. Reading numerous online forums did not give the right direction, but the solution was fairly simple (see answer). rdp file-transfer share|improve this question asked Sep 3 '14 at 6:36 Ynhockey 174315 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted The solution was unbelievably simple: enabling Smart Card sharing did the trick and copying&pasting works again. I am still trying to figure out why—on other almost identical Windows 2003 servers, Smart Card sharing is still disabled and copying and pasting still works. share|improve this answer answered Sep 3 '14 at 6:36 Ynhockey 174315 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote The other thing you need to be cognizant of is if your RDP program has the "Connect to Console" checked. Then uncheck it.. or add the check to the "Smart Drive" shared resource. share|improve this answer answered Mar 6 '15 at 15:03 user274854 1 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of

Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Page 1 of 2 1 2 Next > Advertisement olof It's My Birthday! Thread Starter Joined: Aug 3, 2006 Messages: 30 I downloaded AVG antivirus and ran http://serverfault.com/questions/625872/rdp-copypaste-error-windows-cannot-find-1ls the program; it did its thing and removed some of the bad stuff it found, but since then every time I try to start up my computer I get the error message "Windows cannot find '1'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-help-windows-cannot-find-1.519251/ the Start button, and then click Search." I've tried running several .exe files but to no avail. The only way I've managed to even access an internet browser is to open up My Documents and type in a website in the address bar; I cannot open IE (or Netscape) through the traditional method. I've tried running Hijack this, but that won't work as well. What do I do? Any help is greatly appreciated. olof, Nov 17, 2006 #1 Sponsor olof It's My Birthday! Check the spelling and try again, or try searching for the item by clicking the start button and then clicking Search" This works fine in my old 1.5 version. Do you have this only when you try to copy a file or also when you try to copy some text? What OS, RDP client version, etc. do you have (Please go to “Administration -> Component Check” and error copying file post the results) What server OS? Sporadic or all the time? Yes, those options are enabled for this connection. It's only one server and it happens everytime when copying a file but not with text. Server 2003 Standard SP2 and I have XP SP3 on my local PC RDP client is 6.1.7600 Edit: Just tried this on another couple of servers and it does the same thing Find Reply Andreas Mariotti Posting Freak Posts: 3,307 Threads: 209 Joined: Aug 2006 Reputation: 13 #4 26-05-2010, 08:59 AM Sounds like client drive redirection isn’t working as expected. Can you check if client drive redirection is working in general? Do you see the client drives inside your RDP session? Can you make a test with MSTSC instead of vRD against your server with the issue?
