Every time I try to open steam I get this error message: Steam.exe(main exception): ERROR: copying SteamNew.exe to Steam.exe failed, Win32 Error 32 "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." I followed steams instructions for that error code, restarted my pc, repaired steam, tried to manually update steam. But anyway I try to open it, it fails. I disabled my antivirus, and have closed all processes except ones required by system like explorer.exe and the other basic ones. I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advanced. Here is an image of the error http://www.use.com/8433fc1c3a08d9e93254 Last edited by Trisreaper; 3 Dec, 2012 @ 1:27pm < > Showing 1-15 of 54 comments Trisreaper View Profile View Posts 3 Dec, 2012 @ 1:37pm Is there a manual way of updating steam, that might work? Their steam will no longer open and just give an error as shown below. After looking online, I found a bunch of solutions. Many included Deleting steam.exe, renaming SteamNew.exe to Steam.exe, running in safe mode, running as administrator, doing a hand stand before http://www.lagserv.net/wp/2012/08/how-to-fix-error-copying-steamnew-exe-to-steam-exe/ the error pops up. None of these worked for me, however i did find a little bundle of files on the steam forums posted by dye464. Just copy the files in the 7zip file to your steam directory and fire it on up. Worked for me first try. Good Luck, and credit goes where credit is due. For some reason it keeps getting some bullshit error about being used by some other program. The last time I had this problem, I fixed it by using the task manager to "End process" for Steam.exe, as soon as steamTmp.exe started, but this time I get another error saying "access denied".Manually removing steam.exe and then running either of the others results in another error message, saying that steam is temporarily unavailable. How can I get my steam to work? EDIT 1:I think I found the problem. The people at microsoft are *bleep*ing retards. All files and folders on my drives are automatically set to "read only". I can remove the setting and click "apply", but if I close the properties and reopen it again, it's automatically reset to "read only".
