Hello Jack http://www.justanswer.com/computer/58lke-utilize-palm-desktop-software-manage-address-book.html and thanks for choosing the JustAnswer.com Computer category.First locate your data folder and copy the folder (not just a shortcut) to your desktop just in case.-----I am assuming you have the latest Palm Desktop (version 6.2.2) and Windows 7.Look in C:\users\yourwindowsusersname\Documents\Palm OS Desktop\yourpalmusername\Inside the yourpalmusername folder are the Address, DateBook, MemoPad, ToDo, etc. folders. The DateBook folder contains the calendar data (DateBook.mdb) and backup (DateBook.mdb.bak), etc.Check the modification date and the size of the DateBook.mdbDateBook.mdb.bak is a backup of the previous HotSync of the calendar.-----Palm Desktop keeps a copy of only the last 2 HotSync sessions: The last session and a backup of the previous session.-----Then you can remove the old program and re-install. Ask Your Own Computer Question Customer: replied5 years ago. Thank you for responding but your answer is not really usable as stated. First, I do not have version 6.2.2. Mine is a Palm IIIc and the desktop software is v3.1. Also, I am not using Windows 7, I am using XP Professional. I attempted to get to the locations that you indicated but was unable to do so. Probably because I am not the most computer savy person around which is the reason I am looking for help. With that said, your directions need to be much more specific. Yo

I tried to initiate my Palm Desktop and immediately “Failed to open Address Book Database” message popped up. Not having any choice I had to exit clicking ‘Cancel’. I tried the ‘Hot Sync’ option. It didn’t work, and ‘Sync Expenses’ process continued throughout the day. I didn’t try it before and kept the option disabled in the past. How
you first of all for taking my question. I have Palm M500 and lately have had issues with the Palm Deskstop Software I use to sync the Palm M500 to my desktop. Whenever I try to open the Palm Desktop Software on my computer I get an error message which says PALM DESKTOP : Error-Failed to open Address Book Database. Since I am having this problem with the Desktop Software, I wanted to completely uninstall the software from my computer and then install the software back again to my computer. I am thinking that should resolve my problem. However, since I will loose all my Palm data on my desktop once I uninstall and reinstall the Desktop Software, I wanted to make sure that the data on my Palm M500 transfers into my Desktop Software on my computer properly and that I dont end up loosing my data on my Palm M500 too when I do the sync after I reinstall the software to my desktop. In other words, all my data will be in Palm M500 only so I dont want to do something wrong and loose my data. Any suggestions on how I need solve this problem without using my data on my Palm M500 . That is my main concern. Thank you, AnswerHi Tom, It should be no problem at all - the palm backs up the desktop and vice versa. Once you complete the reinstall - go to the hot sync icon and select -> custom -> change -> handheld overrides desktop. That will put everything that is on your handheld; back onto the desktop. The 1st time you do it, will take longer than usual to complete the hot sync - so don't panic.
