Another option is to rename the c:\Palm\ could be because the database is set to read-only status or because the data file is corrupted and needs to be replaced. Solution:To fix this error, first check to see if the Date Book database is set to read-only status. To locate the Date Book database file, go to one of the following locations:C:\Program Files\palmOne\your user nameC:\Program Files\Palm\your user nameC:\Program Files\Handspring\your user name Where your user name is the name of the user account you use to log in your computer. Next, open the Datebook folder, right-click the datebook.dat file, and select Properties from the menu. Make sure that the checkbox next to "read only" is unchecked. If http://forum.brighthand.com/threads/palm-desktop-wont-open-error-failed-to-open-date-book-database.17469/ it is checked, uncheck it now. Proceed by clicking OK and closing all windows. To test to see if this solution worked, launch the Palm Desktop and synchronize. If you are unable to do so, you may have a corrupt Date Book database. If you suspect a corrupt Date Book database, you can upgrade to a newer version of Palm Desktop that has a built-in utility to repair corrupt Date Book databases, or http://www.registrywinner.com/pcsupport/html/Troubleshooting/7652-Failed-to-open-Date-Book-database.html you can use a different Date Book database for synchronization. To upgrade to the latest version of Palm Desktop, go to palmOne's Web site and look under Software. To use a different Date Book database for synchronization, rename the old datebook.dat file to datebook.old, and rename the copy of datebook.bak to datebook.dat. These files are located in the user folder described earlier. Close all windows and applications, and then restart your computer. After your computer has rebooted, try to synchronize again. Hello Jack and thanks for choosing the JustAnswer.com Computer category.First locate your data folder and copy the folder (not just a shortcut) to your desktop just in case.-----I am assuming you have the latest Palm Desktop (version 6.2.2) and Windows 7.Look in C:\users\yourwindowsusersname\Documents\Palm OS Desktop\yourpalmusername\Inside the yourpalmusername folder are the Address, DateBook, MemoPad, ToDo, etc. folders. The DateBook folder contains the calendar data (DateBook.mdb) and backup (DateBook.mdb.bak), etc.Check the modification date and the size of the DateBook.mdbDateBook.mdb.bak is a backup of the previous HotSync of the calendar.-----Palm Desktop keeps a copy of only the last 2 HotSync sessions:
