A couple of days ago, I zipped my project folder (since I had to reinstall my Linux OS) and now unzipped this after my reinstallation of Linux OS. So, now, I went to my project folder, kept happily working and finally did: git add -A && git commit -m "modified code" && git push origin master ..which is what I usually do.. and I get: To https://johnsproject@bitbucket.org/johnsproject/proj.git ! [rejected] master -> master (non-fast-forward) error: failed to push some refs to 'https://johnsproject@bitbucket.org/johnsproject/proj.git' hint: Updates

I have had a look at a few SO questions where they suggest the use of a force flag -f - but I am unsure if I should be doing this. p.s: I am on the master branch - which is the only branch on my repo. Would really appreciate if anyone could point me in the right direction here. Thanks. git bitbucket git-commit share|improve this question asked Jun 3 '13 at 14:33 JohnJ 1,20642145 Merge the remote changes (e.g. 'git pull') hint: before pushing again. Thanks, Samuel Marks Comments (3) Erik van Zijst staff changed status to invalid assigned https://bitbucket.org/site/master/issues/3247/getting-an-error-when-trying-to-push issue to Erik van Zijst Hi Samuel, Bitbucket rejects your push, because it would delete history on our side. What happened is that your local clone is not in sync with your Bitbucket repository. Maybe someone else has pushed to it, or maybe you rebased locally. Pull first and then push again. Have a look at the documentation it suggests. It explains these scenarios. Alternatively you can have a look at some of the excellent books that are out there (the Git Community Book http://book.git-scm.com/ is very good). This StackOverflow page describes your scenario in detail: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5667476/git-non-fast-forward-rejected Hope this helps, Erik 2011-11-06T23:36:00+00:00 Samuel Marks reporter (Reply via samu...@students.mq.edu.au): Thanks 2011-11-07T00:45:03+00:00 Zach Davis staff removed component Removing component: repository (automated comment) 2014-02-21T19:21:25+00:00 Log in to comment Assignee Erik van Zijst Type bug Priority blocker Status invalid Component – Votes 0 Watchers 4 Blog Support Plans & pricing Documentation API Site status Version info Terms of service Privacy policy English Git 2.7.4.1.g5468f9e Mercurial 3.6.3 Django 1.7.11 Python 2.7.3 4729d131423b / 4729d131423b @ app-106 JIRA Software Confluence Bamboo SourceTree HipChat Atlassian Help Online help Learn Git Keyboard shortcuts Latest features Bitbucket tutorials Site status Support
