If another error failed to push some refs to bitbucket person has pushed to the same branch as you, Git won't be able to push your changes: git push origin http://stackoverflow.com/questions/24114676/git-error-failed-to-push-some-refs-to master To https://github.com/USERNAME/REPOSITORY.git ! [rejected] master -> master (non-fast-forward) error: failed to push some refs to 'https://github.com/USERNAME/REPOSITORY.git' To prevent you from losing history, non-fast-forward updates were rejected Merge the remote changes (e.g. 'git pull') before pushing again. See the 'Note https://help.github.com/articles/dealing-with-non-fast-forward-errors/ about fast-forwards' section of 'git push --help' for details. You can fix this by fetching and merging the changes made on the remote branch with the changes that you have made locally: git fetch origin # Fetches updates made to an online repository git merge origin YOUR_BRANCH_NAME # Merges updates made online with your local work Or, you can simply use git pull to perform both commands at once: git pull origin YOUR_BRANCH_NAME # Grabs online updates and merges them with your local work Contact a human Article versions GitHub.com GitHub Enterprise 2.7 GitHub Enterprise 2.6 GitHub Enterprise 2.5 GitHub Enterprise 2.4 GitHub Enterprise 2.3 © 2016 GitHub Inc. 'https://github.com/leaoc/leaoc.github.io.git' hint: Updates were rejected because the remote contains work that you do hint: not have locally. This is usually caused by another repository pushing hint: to the same ref. You may want to first integrate the remote changes hint: (e.g., 'git pull ...') before pushing again. hint: See the 'Note about fast-forwards' in 'git push --help' for details. $ yozora 2016-05-18 07:25:20 UTC #2 I got the same error. I only solved it by following one of those hints and doing git pull -u origin master before I tried to do what the instructions said, ( git push -u origin master) It took me through slightly confusing steps where I had to add a comment on why I was merging things, and I had to CTRL +C to get out of the text editing mode... almost gave up! After doing this, the git push command did work. Maybe a step is missing from the instructions? laurenmackey 2016-05-19 12:54:01 UTC #3 I got the same error, and I think it was due to me trying to add the README file that github recommends. I solved it by typing git push -f origin master instead to do a forced update regardless of changes. yozora 2016-05-20 12:32:37 UTC #4 Ah, good catch. I did add the README file. This would be the remote work that is not found locally. If this is the case, things could be improved in the course rather easily by adding a small additional instruction to the exercise. system 2016-05-27 12:32:47 UTC #5 This topic was automatically closed 7 days after the last reply.
