Error Failed While Attempting To Add Domain To Auth Backend
diagnose. I am hopeful that someone outthere wiser than myself can point me in the right direction.Originally, my email server had only one domain. Lately, I have added twoadditional domains using vadddomain. I can use the vadduser successfullyto add users to any domain. All seems well using vpopmail bin. However, qmailadmin errors trying to add users to any domain but the original.Qmailadmin works fine if I log in to the original domain. However, if Ilog into the newer domains and attempt to add a user I receive the errormessage:Email Account ***@newdomain.com (test) could not be added. The only log message I can find is in the apache failed logs:Failed while attempting to add user to auth backendI've triple checked permissions. I've reset the qmailadmin to setuid rootand setgid root, ie:chown root qmailadminchgrp root qmailadminchmod ug+s qmailadminStill, no change. The original domain works fine. Subsequent domainscannot add users.I'm stumped. Perhaps the issue lies with the cdb files? I've lookedthrough them and they look identical to the original domain, as does thedirectory structure and permissions. Any help is appreciated.Thank you,Patrick Murray!DSPAM:49c91ad732682075016624! Post #1 of 3 (2565 views) Permalink Problem adding accounts Hello to everyone in the list. I have a problem with my qmail server. It is running ok with mail received and sent, and with the multiple virtual domains, but since monday, it doesn't let me create new accounts. It doesn't let me delete accounts either, and previously, I could do all this without problems. The error http://qmailadmin.inter7.narkive.com/uOAFCfiG/failed-while-attempting-to-add-user-to-auth-backend that I get is: server# /var/vpopmail/bin/vadduser user [at] domai password Error: Internal (implementation specific) error (80) Failed while attempting to add user to auth backend Error: no authentication database connection I believe I haven't installed new software that can be causing this. There is an openldap server but was installed and running http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/qmail/users/136704 before I noticed this behavior. Of course, I'm trying to execute this command as root. The owner of qmail files is "vpopmail" who belongs to the group "vchkpw". Honestly, I don't know which could be causing the problem. I've checked permissions and owners, and make sure that there is enough space available on disk. ¿Any ideas? I've been out-of-office a few days and coming back, I find you have put a lot of thoughts into my problem. Thank you very much !!! I went through all the suggestions and here are the results: JOHN: Create a new siteworx account called mail.mydomain.url, then edit the DNS and change mx record so it only shows mail.mydomain.url This won't work, since the email address would then be user@mail.mydomain.url instead of user@mydomain.url. Or did I get you wrong, John? JUSTIN: manually add the server alias to vhost of site1.com ... either delete the site2 vhost file ... or just make sure that site1.com's vhost loads first This works, but since we edit the vhost file manually, any change to the domain settings (add subdomain etc.) will remove the manually added vhost entry. It would be ok as a temp solution, but is way to error-prone for a permanent solution. No matter how detailed our documentation would be, in a few months or even years, this WILL lead to confusion and angry customers ;-) So I would prefer a more fail-safe way. JOHN: manually create the email account(s) required, and for webmail, use server domain This seems to be a viable solution, but it doesn't work for me :-( When trying to create the domain via "/home/vpopmail/bin/vadddomain domain.url password" it says the domain already exists. But when I try to add the mail account via "/home/vpopmail/bin/vadduser new-user@domain.url password" I get vmysql: sql error[2]: Data too long for column '
