But I didn't find any recent news that it might be down for everybody. Right now their servers seem to time out on connection requests. If you only require some older packages from them (only el6 ?) then you could easily switch the repo configuration /etc/yum.repos.d/atrpms.repo to any of the mirrors, like the one mentioned above or this one: https://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/dl.atrpms.net/ share|improve this answer answered Sep 15 '15 at 17:41 doktor5000 1,245214 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote Short Answer - Yes. to use the Fedora Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) repository. The EPEL repository provides atrpms mirror useful software packages that are not included in the official CentOS or Red Hat repositories. Instructions are also included for installing the IUS Community Project http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/229661/is-atrpms-dead and the Remi RPM Repository. Whereas EPEL provides only software that is not in the official CentOS and Red Hat official repositories, IUS and Remi provide newer versions of software (like MySQL and PHP) that exists in the official repositories. Note: Exercise caution when using any third-party repository. If you have https://support.rackspace.com/how-to/install-epel-and-additional-repositories-on-centos-and-red-hat/ a managed support agreement, contact your provider before following the instructions in this article to ensure that you don’t create an unsupported server configuration. Install the EPEL repository You install the EPEL repository by downloading the appropriate RPM package for your system and installing it. The following instructions use the 64-bit packages that work with Rackspace Cloud Servers instances. CentOS Extras repository The CentOS Extras repository includes a package to install EPEL, and is enabled by default. To install the EPEL package, run the following command: sudo yum install epel-release If that command doesn’t work, perhaps because the CentOS Extras repository is disabled, use the following manual installation instructions based on your distribution version: CentOS and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x wget https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-5.noarch.rpm sudo rpm -Uvh epel-release-5*.rpm CentOS and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x wget https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/epel-release-latest-6.noarch.rpm sudo rpm -Uvh epel-release-6*.rpm CentOS and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x wget h

By Debjit on November 21st, 2009 Share on share on gp share on fb share on tw Advertisement Update: This problem has now been resolved by the Fedora Community. But you may still not be able to download the updates properly from the mirrors due to the busy network and rush. The recently released Fedora 11 Leonidas has some issues with it's regular update process. Many users are getting a strange error which complains about the inability of the update system to retrieve the repository metadata, namely repomd.xml. You can see the error as attached in this inlet below: Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again When we tried to install Fedora 11 for the first time, we also faced a similar problem. A quick twitter search brought us to a conclusion that we were not alone. But a little tweaking of a few system files brought us back on track. In this article we tell you, how to go about resolving the problem in case you face it too. You need to edit two of your repository files: /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo and /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-updates.repo. Now un-comment all the lines that start with the term baseurl and place a comment before all lines that start with mirrorlist. This should be done for both the above files. Now edit your /etc/hosts file and append the following to it's contents: 80.239.156.215 mirrors.fedoraproject.org 213.129.242.84 mirrors.rpmfusion.org Now try updating your system or installing any software via Yum. You will see, the error is now resolved and the error message is not shown anymore.
