trying to install WindowsXP ByScobias Mar 10, 2010 Hi I have a HP 2133 notbook that does not have an internal DVD drive. I needed to reinstall Windows XP so I used an external DVD drive to do this. error loading operating system dell The CD booted fine and I chose to reinstall windows through the Windows set up consol. The hard drive was formatted using NTFS (quick) but when the machine rebooted to begin installing the OS it comes up with the error message "Erro loading operating system". The notebook recognises the DVD drive so that's not the problem. Can anyone help me with this? Mar 10, 2010 #1 mailpup TS Special Forces Posts: 6,948 +354 It may be related to error loading operating system linux the SATA controller the hard drive is connected to. Windows lacks the SATA driver you need for Windows to recognize the SATA hard drive. If the BIOS allows you to change from SATA or AHCI mode to IDE mode, do so and see if you can continue the Windows installation. If not, you will need to hit F6 at the prompt and install SATA drivers at this point in Windows Setup. However, you need a floppy drive for this. If you don't have a floppy drive (external might work), you will have to make a slipsteam CD to install Windows XP. Mar 11, 2010 #2 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) May 2012 #1 Placehold Windows 7 13 posts Error loading operating system on boot Ok so I'll keep this simple, Sony Vaio Windows 7 OEM laptop. So for about 2 days I was receiving http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/error-loading-operating-system-when-trying-to-install-windows-xp.144290/ 'I/O device errors' and couldn't find what was causing the errors, I performed a chkdsk which took a full day to get to about 80% then the laptop died on me, it switched off and that was that. After rebooting the machine I was presented with 'Error Loading Operating System' and the machine just sits there doing nothing. I tried booting to the hidden recovery partition however the function buttons don't appear to work properly and http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/230947-error-loading-operating-system-boot.html the only thing I can get into is the Bios. I booted into the Bios, changed the arrangement to boot from optical disk, created a Win7 recovery disk on my home pc and rebooted with the disk in the drive. Booted to disk, it runs, 'loading files' appears and then I'm left on a blank screen with a large white cursor, waited about 6hrs but still no change. I discovered that if I reboot a few times I get a 'failed to read disk, press ctrl + alt + del to restart' error. Tried booting from an external device with a recovery disk on the device, doesn't even recognise it. Any idea's? If possible I would like to keep all the data on the disk, if not then as long as I can trigger the Hidden recovery partition I'm happy. Then, DELETE the old partition, Press D, then it will give you more messeges, press enter, then L to fully delete. Next, CREATE a partition using the space you deleted. Press C then enter. Do NTFS Quick. Let it load, should take 5 mins. Then, you will go to WIndows setup. Takes about 20 mins. After that, it should work?
