Error Sending Message 550 5.7.1
Core Operating System Division. Resolving SMTP error 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for user@domain.com Error 0x800CCC79 ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ John Howard -MSFTOctober 11, 200515 0 0 0 I was struggling with this error message today - everything I had found on the Internet suggested it related to security. Well, it does, of sorts, and a careful look at the configuration of your SMTP server without mis-interpreting a dialog box. If you open the properties for your SMTP server under IIS admin, select the Access Tab, and at the bottom, click "Relay", you will see a check-box at the bottom, which is by default selected, saying "Allow all computers which successfully authenticate to relay, regardless of the list above". In my head-scratching to work out the cause of the error, I had mis-read the message as "Allow all users which succ….". The answer therefore was simple, above that check-box on the relay restrictions tab, there is a options dialog which by default Only the list may relay. Simple as adding your server to the list, or selecting All except the list below. The first one is obviously more secure.

How can I unblock my account as an end user? Encourage your service provider to ensure the server you use for email sending has been secured against outgoing spam and compromised email accounts. This problem may also occur if the owner of your domain name has been using the domain for spamming or fraudulent purposes. Check the IP address or domain listed in the error message https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/jhoward/2005/10/11/resolving-smtp-error-550-5-7-1-unable-to-relay-for-userdomain-com-error-0x800ccc79/ against reputable RBLs including Spamhaus. Verify that your operating system is running with the latest security updates. If these steps do not resolve the problem, please file a support request with your web hosting provider. How can I unblock an end user account as a service provider? anyone on the internet to relay (send) a message using it. At one time this was a common configuration. However, nowadays that would be abused by spammers so many SMTP servers require the http://kb.mozillazine.org/5.7.1_Unable_to_relay user to authenticate themselves whenever they send a message to somebody in another domain. http://www.slideshare.net/andrewscott01/how-to-fix-exchange-server-error-550-571-unable-to-relay If you get a error message that looks roughly like "5.7.1 Unable to relay" or "550 5.7.1 Relaying prohibited" when trying to send a message it probably means the SMTP server couldn't authenticate you as a legitimate user. Most email providers don't care who uses thier SMTP server to send a message to somebody in the same error sending domain, so it may look like everything is working until you try to send a message to somebody in another domain. Some common authentication methods: "SMTP-AUTH" has the user provide a separate username and password for the SMTP server. This is usually the same username/password used for the POP/IMAP server. Most email providers use this method. If your email provider uses this method goto Tools -> Account Settings -> Outgoing Server error sending message (SMTP), select the appropriate SMTP server, press the Edit button, and enter the username. Old versions of Thunderbird may also have a checkbox for "User name and password". If you have that checkbox, you need to check it. See the SMTP authentication article for more information. If you're using your ISP as a email provider it may check that you're logged into the internet using them. So this error might occur if you take your laptop somewhere else and use a public network. Setup another account with a free email provider such as Gmail and use that account's SMTP server with your existing account when traveling. See Multiple SMTP servers for more information. "POP before SMTP" relies upon the user checking for new mail (thus logging in to the POP server) and then sending a message within X minutes. See the POP before SMTP support article for more information. You need to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to connect to the SMTP server. This requires you to configure Thunderbird to use the appropiate VPN client. If you're unsure what method is used goto your email providers web site and browse thier email client support pages. If you have multiple SMTP servers double check that you're actually using the SMTP server
