APAR status Closed as program error. Error description Given the following conditions when multiple backups are running at the same time, - PRIMARY and COPY STGPOOL are used with enabling simultaneous write operation. - PRIMARY and COPY STGPOOL are tape library device. - Number of writable private volumes is less than number of running backup processes. - No scratch volumes are available A backup session attempts to open two volumes in each PRIMARY and COPY asynchronously and if all volumes are in use by other backup sessions, a later backup session usually waits for a volume being available. However, before waiting on the 2nd volume, it checks if there are any other backup sessions waiting on the 1st volume that is already opened. If any waiters are on the 1st volume, the backup fails with the following error to avoid the potential deadlock. --- ANS1425E The image operation for volume filespace-name cannot be retried because of a severe error. ANS1228E Sending of object 'object-name' failed ANS1312E Server media mount not possible ANS1813E Image Backup processing of 'filespace-name' finished with failures. --- Even though the backup fails due to above reason, no error is recorded in ACTLOG except ANR1405W warning message, so it is difficult to determine the reason why a backup ended with failure. --- ANR1405W Scratch volume mount request denied - no scratch volume available. --- The goal of this APAR is to add new error in ACTLOG that describes the cause of the backup failure. But would be really useful if when a server is out of disk space it creates an issue. So insteed of users logging in and restarting the rethink process they will see a reason assocated with it. Also would be cool if a simular message went off when the machine is x% disk space remining 2013-12-27T02:25:51.001659062 85.250963s error: Error in src/arch/io/disk/pool.cc at line 87: 2013-12-27T02:25:51.001720276 85.251023s error: Guarantee failed: [lensum == res] 2013-12-27T02:25:51.001741023 85.251044s error: Backtrace: 2013-12-27T02:25:51.228961566 85.478265s error: Error in src/arch/io/disk/pool.cc at line 87: 2013-12-27T02:25:51.229065192 85.478368s error: Guarantee failed: [lensum == res] 2013-12-27T02:25:51.229105145 85.478408s error: Backtrace: 2013-12-27T02:25:51.355263126 85.604566s error: Error in ./src/arch/types.hpp at line 62: 2013-12-27T02:25:51.355411998 85.604715s error: I/O operation failed.
