When I installed slack I installed both cup and lprng I couldn't print. I then found out there was a bug that made cups stop working, so I reinstalled cups and removed lprng.... many times, in different combinations. However, I

Hi there i'm tring to set ubuntu 7.10 up to act as a print server for my small network. The boxes(gentoo and ubuntu) are connected together using a router.I have opened up port 631(tcp and udp) on the router for the ubuntu server. Here are the relevant sections from /etc/cups/cupsd.conf: Code:
on the security list and somehow didn't get the info; so this may be an old upgrade. One of the items is lprng-3.8.27-i486-1. So my first guess is that this has something to do with the problem. I ran /etc/rc.d/rc.lprng restart and it said that it started the daemon. Another change is that I am using KDE, but I don't see what that would have to do with trying to run 'lpr' from an xterm. Any ideas? I decided to try to reinstall that lprng pkg. I went looking for it on the cdrom I had made and did not find it (libpng was the similar name I had recalled) Then I noticed that cups was on that cd. I had installed cups which wiped out lprng. So I uninstalled cups and got my Slackware installation cdrom out and installed lprng which was gone after uninstalling cups for some reason. Not sure what happened there. After the reinstall, I had to get the spool back and the easiest way for me was to just rerun apsfilter's configuration, use what was there which was my default stuff already in printcap, Install it which made the spool, and quit. Now the printer is working again. -- Anita http://linuxbasics.org Thread at a glance: Previous Message by Date: lpr: error - scheduler not responding I am running Slackware 10 and recently did some security upgrades.
