When I installed slack I installed both cup and lprng I couldn't print. I then found out there was a bug that made cups stop working, so I reinstalled cups and removed lprng.... many times, in different combinations. However, I always get: lpr: error - scheduler not responding! when I try to print. I set up the printer in cups using the web-based setup, and can print test pages. cupsd starts when I boot, but it seems there is a problem with the scheduler, whatever that is.. What's a solution so I can print? Atmchicago View Public Profile View LQ Blog View Review Entries View HCL Entries Find More Posts by Atmchicago 12-09-2003, 09:38 PM #2 Atmchicago Member Registered:

I have a relatively new MacBookPro running a fresh installation of 10.6.4.I can't print from the command line. When I try enscript, I get "lpr: Error - scheduler not responding!". When I try to research it with the other lp* commands, I continue to get errors. For example, lpstat tell me "lpstat: Unable to connect to server".Clearly something that should be running, isn't. Since Darwin doesn't use /etc/init.d for starting and stopping things, I don't know where to look to figure out what should be http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/lpr-error-scheduler-not-responding-123402/ running and how to start it.Thanks for your help.Regards, David. Control-click or right-click a print queue in the "Printers" pane. 2. Choose "Reset printing system..." from the contextual menu. 3. Click "OK" in the "Are you sure..." confirmation sheet. This will require re-Adding the printer(s). I use several networks in my travels and I have dozens of printers set up. If I had to lose all of them, I would need to do a lot of work to re-establish them one by one.Is there nothing else that can fix this? Why can't I just restart whatever is not running?
