From the an error of type has occurred terminal I get the following: $ open "/Applications/TheApp.app" LSOpenFromURLSpec() failed with error -10661 for the file /Applications/TheApp.app. Anyone know why this might be happening? Searching for "-10661" in frameworks with Xcode turns up this Launch Services error code: kLSExecutableIncorrectFormat applescript error codes = -10661, /* No compatible executable was found*/ Searching Google with "LSOpenFromURLSpec() failed with error 10661" (omit the minus to keep Google from excluding 10661 from the results) turns up hits suggesting mangled Info.plists and missing architectures. They get this weird LSOpenFrom URLSpec failure. The error (LSOpen) is printed to the https://forums.wxwidgets.org/viewtopic.php?t=27180 console. However, the OS X error report has a different message entirely: Dyld Error Message: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libwx_macu_adv-2.8.0.dylib Referenced from: /Users/wpostma/XCode/wxMac-2.8.6/lib/libwx_macu_richtext-2.8.0.dylib Reason: image not found That error cleared life up for me. Now I realize. I have to do "make install" (sudo make install actually). Now everything works. Anyways, my query is, does that LSOpenFromURLSpec thing mean anything? Is that OS X's friendly way of saying "dynamic library not found in library path?". It is not limited to the Applications folder, it appears for every directory I unpack the downloaded app (out of the .dmg). When I type open RubyMine.app in the Terminal, I get: LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed with error -10658 for the file /Applications/RubyMine.app. And it happens with more apps then only RubyMine. What can I do about this? At the beginning i was asked to allow the startup of the downloaded app, but now this appears every time. applications error share|improve this question edited Feb 7 '13 at 16:55 asked Feb 7 '13 at 4:46 A.S. 922313 It looks like this only happens to Java programs, but I can't say that for sure. –A.S. Usually the execution flag doesn't get carried over from the DMG image. Try, for the sake of curiosity to set the execution flag like this: chmod +x /Applications/RubyMine.app/Contents/MacOS/
