But 2day i restarted the pc and it came up with the Error 17 message wen trying to boot GRUB. I've tried some things which were stated on the forums but none worked. I'm pretty sure it's not a winxp issue, as i've tried uninstalling the winxp hdd and removing it from the list in grub.conf. All https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/GRUB_Error_Reference help is greatly appreciated. Code: root (hd0,0) setup (hd0) Also, I think you need the makeactive line in the XP section, but I might be wrong on that. But, then again, you said that you took that part out. That would cause grub to look in the Dell thingy for it's files. A partition type it can't read. Did you change the drive order in the bios? If so change it back, if not you could try changing (hd0,0) in (hd1,0) in grub.conf for both occurences._________________Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. I had miscompiled a kernel then tried to re-compile it and started to organize a list of boot options in grub for differently configured kernels and vbox threw a fit so I left the computer alone for a while.
