I installed Bitdefender antivirus a few weeks ago and have been having back and forth correspondence with their technical support about having problems getting bitdefender to update. Yesterday they had me unistall it using their removal tool and wanted me to re-install another version. Well, I unstalled it using their tool and now my PC will not reboot at all. It gives me the following when I turn it on..... Booting 'Windows Vista' acpi Vista Loader 2.1.2 ACPI: Reclaim Memory not found! Done! fallback 1 find --set-root /bootmgr Error 17: File not found Booting 'Windows NT/2000/XP fallback 2 find --set-root /ntldr Error

Every time I switch on the laptop I get the screen below: GRUB Loading stage 1.5 GRUB Loading please wait... Error 17 - This persists even when I booted from the Ubuntu CD and used the partition manager therein to format the partition containing XP. I also tried the XP system disk which gave a screen saying "setup is checking your computer's grub error 17 hardware configurations" then blank screen indefinately, I left it on for some time! It seems this Error 17 is an MS device to screw up any computer that dares to download

Hello jlbethuram, welcome to the Forums. Grub error 17 occurs when Grub does not recognise the filesystem on the partition it is directed at; e.g. if it's ntfs. Is this the situation: you had vista on a drive and installed openSUSE off of a live DVD onto the drive in a multiboot with vista? Everything was working fine until i came back after some updates and it was just on the screen grub
