to work. I recently dedided to upgrade my home network to Fedora core 3, and used it as a backup device. After the upgrade, I want to restore data, but guess what hapens: at connecting my drive, I get (in /var/log/messages) : slocum kernel: usb 2-1: uew full speed USB device using address 5 slocum kernel: usb 2-1: device not accepting address 5, error -71 slocum kernel: usb 2-1: uew full speed USB device using address 6 slocum kernel: usb 2-1: device not accepting address 6, error -71 http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/red-hat-31/grub-error-71-a-531543/ (the nrs 5 - 6 increment gradually as I try anew, the nr 2-1 refers to the connector where I plug the disk) no device shows up in /dev, so I cannot mount anything (or even see it in fstab) the same happens if I previously manually load usb-storage, it happens on 4 different computers, under fc3 and fc1. I cannot see it anymore under http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-30868.html knoppix 3.3 (which previously i could !!) I have tried stripping a computer of all unnecesary hardware to avoid interrupt problems, but no cure. the drive is still detected by winXP (but not read, as i've formatted it in ext3 ) My camera and usb-serial convertor are still working, so no usb hardware error neither. any idea's ? imdeemvp1st January 2005, 11:48 AMSince it is a linux partition this may help you mount it: http://www.fedoranews.org/tchung/storage/ jbruggem2nd January 2005, 07:24 PMNope. As I've mentioned in my initial post, there is no entry created in /dev, which means fdisk cannot access it. imdeemvp2nd January 2005, 08:24 PMThe tutorial gives you step by step configuration including the fstab entry. Run as root:/sbin/fdisk -l and see how it is detected and create your fstab. jbruggem2nd January 2005, 09:19 PMAs i've said in my initial post, it is not detected. It used to be, i've done what you said previously in my old setup, i've partitioned and formated it in ext3 then, Now it is not visible anymore, even if I try to go back to that old setup (problem is, i don't know what exactly that

NVIDIA geforce go 7950 gtx. running XP pro, feisty and (hopefully) gutsy fresh install of gutsy from alternate CD. Install worked fine, even got the full disk crypto running without grub error 71 too many hassels. updated everything fine, downloaded some themes fine, rebooted 3 or 4 times no worries. (last thing i did was download and install - but not configure - tor and privoxy) But now, i get an error message after grub when it tries to initialise the kernel and will not load (works in recovery mode tho). most common error is : [ 4.532000] usb 1-1 device not accepting address 2, error -71 sometimes it gives 4 lines of error messages but all quote ( -71) at the end. ( just got a couple) [ 4.848000] hub 1-1.2:1.0: connect-debounce failed, port 2 disabled [ 4.848000] hub 1-1.2:1.0: cannot disable port 2 (err = -71) [ 4.848000] hub 1-1.2:1.0: hub_port_status failed (err = -71) any help greatly appreciated, as i really would like to avoid having to do a re-install. ( i've definately not got any usb devices plugged in.) i've managed to change the error, by altering the place of the usb drives in the bios boot priorities menu, i even disabled the usb boot abil

This is no big deal, but knowing how to get OsX as standard back would be nice. Now my real problem:When I boot into Grub I get Arch Linux as desired. As well as a fallback mode. When I choose it it just ends in:No such Device: ad4103fa-d940-47ca-8506-301d8071d467.Loading Linux core repo kernel ...error: no such partition.Loading initial ramdisk ...error: you need to load the kernel first.Press any key to continue..._and it goes to Grub again. On /dev/sda1/boot/efi/EFI/arch_grub/grub.cfg is a config file, which I've auto generated during installation with chroot. It looks ok to me, has these set root to UUID=... with the right UUID from my actual / partition, not this thing with ad410..As well as that I've googled errors like this, which could be solved through mkinitcpio -p linux, but I've done that, during install and tried, then afterwards again,.. but again no luck.Is there any suggestion? Thanks, mike.ps. I can chroot to my arch normally and even install things with pacman, and everything..And here the grub.cfg from boot/EFI/arch_grub/grub.cfg mounted form /dev/sda1 as /boot:# # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### insmod part_gpt insmod part_msdos if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; then load_env fi set default="0" if [ x"${feature_menuentry_id}" = xy ]; then menuentry_id_option="--id" else menuentry_id_option="" fi export menuentry_id_option if [ "${prev_saved_entry}" ]; then set saved_entry="${prev_saved_entry}" save_env saved_entry set prev_saved_entry= save_env prev_saved_entry set boot_once=true fi function savedefault { if [ -z "${boot_once}" ]; then saved_entry="${chosen}" save_env saved_entry fi } function load_video { if [ x$feature_all_video_module = xy ]; then insmod all_video else insmod efi_gop insmod efi_uga insmod ieee1275_fb insmod vbe insmod vga insmod video_bochs ins
