Tray 2. Instead, it prompts me to load letter sized paper in Tray 1 and gives me a "41.2 Unexpected paper size" error. Everything on the print queue is set up as it should be, I even tried to set it to where it would pull letter size paper from Tray 2 instead of having it automatically select the source. From the control panel on the printer itself, it will allow me to configure paper size and type for Tray 1, but it will only allow me to specify a paper type for Tray 2, not size. My best guess is that the sensor for Tray 2 is malfunctioning, but I wanted to get some other opinions. Anyone have any ideas? Respond to this 1 Check the right side http://h20564.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/psi/troubleshootResults?sp4ts.oid=25475 of the paper tray. You'll see 2 white plastic levers towards the back of it. The top one should be in and the bottom one out. This tells the printer it's set for letter. What happens is the backstop goes bad and it isn't locked in place and you get an inbetween setting thus confusing the printer. by moe on Aug 29, 2002 at 9:42am Add comment Please sign in to comment They say best things in life are free, Fixyourownprinter.com just prove it. You guys http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/5864 make my day, I got it fix by resetting the paper size on the tray. Thanks a mil. - Anonymous Your solution solved my problem. My size appeared set correctly but both of the white tabs were loose. I wedged a piece of plastic in behind one and all works well now. I could not see what was supposed to hold either one out. Is there a fix or a new paper tray?? - Anonymous 0 Please note that there is another cause for this problem on the 4050, 4100 etc. If you take out the paper cassette and turn it upside down and look at the the front of the cassette, you will see a spring that tensions upwards the paper support plate. This spring becomes a little soft, cut 2-3 coils off it and refit, it should solve the problem. A good clue is that the paper pick-up "groans" as it tries to pick the paper from the cassette. by Harvey on Sep 9, 2002 at 3:08pm Add comment Please sign in to comment Harvey...11 Years after this post! And your suggestion FIXED the problem!!!THANK-YOU!!!I've spent all afternoon trying to get help from HP Support (Hopeless & Pointless Support). They no longer support this printer on the phone. The tightening of the spring WORKED wonders! - craig1 0 Thanks guys. It turned out to be that the paper stop wasn't set in the right position. Both of the white levers were loose, so the printer didn't know what was going on. After I put it in the

The easiest one to check is the feed/separation roller in the tray or inside the cassette cavity. Make sure they are properly clipped into place especially the tray roller. Sometimes when cleaning or replacing like when the PM kit is needed people pull the roller out and quickly install the new roller not bothering to check and make sure the roller is clicked into place. It has to mesh with the black torque limiter and the limiter on the opposite site has to mesh with the metal shaft the two parts sits on for proper installation. Second and the most common one I see is the feed assembly behind the tray 1 pick up assembly. I’ve made it a spare part to carry around in my car stock.
