This error indicates a failure with the laser scanner assembly, which is a high-failure part on these models. You can try turning the printer on and off; sometimes that will temporarily reset the error code and allow you to print a few more pages. Usually the error reappears, in which case http://h20564.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/psi/troubleshootResults?sp4ts.oid=83436 you should replace the laser scanner. Fortunately, on this model replacing the laser scanner is not a difficult repair; see instructions below. Click here to purchase the laser scanner assembly. On the rear right side, grasp the formatter cover by its lip and pull it firmly toward the rear of the printer until it stop and comes free. See picture below. See picture http://www.printertechs.com/printer-troubleshooting/401-51-01-51-1-error-hp-laserjet-4100-laser-scanner-failure below -- use a flat-blade screwdriver to gently pry the plastic overlay up and outward from the right side of the control panel. Free the plastic overlay from its tabs on the left and lift it up & off the printer. Once the control panel overlay is removed, use a flat-blade screwdriver as shown in picture below to release the retaining clip from each side of the control panel, then rotate the front of the control panel upward. There is a tab (see arrow in picture) hidden behind the top center of the control panel, rotating the control panel outwards clears that tab. Also, there will be a ribbon cable connected to the bottom of the control panel, disconnect that ribbon cable and completely remove the control panel. Open the top cover and remove the toner cartridge. Disconnect the toner cartridge drive arm by using needle-nose pliers to squeeze the pin and push it back through its retaining hole on the top cover. See picture below. Fold down the rear output bin at the back of the printer, and remove 2 screws (see picture, screws circled a

troubleshoot and knows that code means the Memory in the third DIMM slot has failed the RAM test.I changed the memory and also replaced the Formatter board. Memory passed the ram test but the printer is still not working. Someone help me plz. Respond to this 0 Does "is still not working" mean that you are still getting the same 53 error code? Only 2 things that can cause the error are the memory and the formatter.I think you read the troubleshooting wrong. Here's what my book says.53.xy.zzx=RAMy=internal memoryzz=Failed RAM test by moe on Feb 27, 2007 at 5:06pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Moe is 100\% correct. The RAM memory built into the formatter board failed the test. by dmzcompute on Feb 27, 2007 at 6:51pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I have the same 53.10.03 error which only appeared after I tried to add memory. The same error remains after removing the known-good extra memory.Did I damage a good formatter board in the the process of snapping in the new memory, and perhaps pressing too hard?Would you confirm that the "internal memory" is in the formatter board, not in the ROM? by unknown on Mar 18, 2009 at 9:49am Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 give it a couple taps on the left side of the machine. Pulled the formatter, lined up the mounting pins correctly and the formatter seated all the way in and booted. by davidrlewis on Feb 26, 2016 at 3:36pm Add comment Please sign in to comment Please sign in to comment HP LaserJet 4100 Buy discount ink Buy this printer More HP questions © Copyright 2011-2016, FixYourOwnPrinter.com, Inc.
