2. Printing from tray 1 is fine and a tray from a 4050 seems OK. I have replaced the feed and seperation rollers and the fuser (which was noisy). If I pull the tray out a little it will print OK but I can see nothing wrong with the tray and I can hear all three microswitches click when the tray is pushed in (A4 paper). Can anyone help? Respond to this 0 You may want to observe the paper movement from the back of the printer. When a sheet starts to print it moves about 1/3 forward, stops for a momemt and then prints when the dc controller starts its actions. If the paper moves forward and then comes back a bit, the problem http://h20564.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/psi/troubleshootResults?sp4ts.oid=83436 is with the clutch in the tray. Your tip off should be that another tray works ok. If that is the case it is something in the tray. You can try to run the tray without the clutch to see if that is the problem. Good Luck. By the way if it is the older style clutch (the 4100 had two types) it can be cleaned. Let us know and I will give you instructions. by dmzcompute on Jan 9, 2004 at 11:29pm Add comment Please http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/15471 sign in to comment Hi dmzcompute,You've helped me in the past, hope you can help me now. I have a LJ4100 (tray 2 only) that will print any 2+ page print job and at the end of that job, send a blank page through that will stop just as the leading edge goes through the fuser. It then registers a 13.6 error. There is also one page picked up by tray 2 that has not made it through the paper feed assembly. I remove the page at the fuser, let the machine reset. The printer then spits out the page that was at the paper tray and comes back to the ready state. When I watched th paper load from the back, I did not see the paper move back & forth. It was smooth movement. I tore the printer apart and could not find anything out of the ordinary. It does the same after I put it back together. I also tried a different fuser, so it can't be the fuser or fuser sensors, correct? Is it a possibility one of the other sensors could have gone bad? Thanks TOM - Anonymous 0 Most likely the tray 2 solenoid is sticking. You'll have to remove the top of the printer from the tray and take the top metal plate off to access it. Solenoid is in the right front corner. When it gets hot, the solenoid plate gets stuck to the top of the solenoid on the deteriorated foam noise damper. To fix, you
by a Paper Jam 13.1 Error. I turn the printer off and on and it does the same thing...prints a couple of pages, http://fixyourownprinter.com/posts/43012 then prints a blank page followed by the 13.1 error. There is no real paper jam that I can see. What gives?Greybeard Respond to this 0 Sounds like you may have a selenoid flapper issue. Try http://www.laserzone123.com/4100-printer.html printing from the manual feeder and see if it exhibits the same behavior. If it prints ok from the manual feeder, then the issue is probably the selenoid which controls the movement of the paper hp laserjet tray pickup unit. There is a selenoid with a "L" shaped arm which sits in a opening in the gear assembly and prevents it from moving. When a print job is sent, the arm is attracted to the center of the selenoid by an electrical charge which magnatizes the center of the selenoid. As the gear starts to turn power is turned off and the "L" arm returns against the gear hp laserjet 4100 assembly and when the opening is reached it stops the gear movement. They used a velcro type material to dampen the noise of the "L" arm hitting the center of the selenoid. That material over time disintegrates and all that is left is the glue which held it. So somtimes the "L" arm goes to the center and when power is turned off it stays there sticking with the glue and does not return and stop the paper movement. Easy to fix, but hard to get to. All you have to do is clean off the glue residue and put a piece of electrical tape over the spot and it will work like new. It is located on the right side of the feeder unit and you have to split the printer into two parts so as to have access to the feeder unit and removal of the feeder unit cover. by dmzcompute on Dec 4, 2006 at 7:09pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Hey! Just want to mention that the sticky "L" shaped solenoid arm on the Tray 2 was the problem behind our LaserJet 4100N errors. The printer would print two or three pages normally, followed by a single blank page, and then the motor would
