oddity is that the last 1/4 inch of the config page fades out and the line along the edge is not printed. hp laserjet 4100 tray 2 default Tried switching tray 2 to legal, set the panel to legal as well. Did a paper path test and also got a 41.3 error and the same peculiar fade at the bottom of the page. Lowered the http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/LaserJet-4050-Tray-1-load-plain-letter/td-p/584277 back door and bypassed the interlock so I could see when the error was generated. Oddity #2, the leading edge of letter sized paper was just shy of the fuser exit sensor when it generated the error. It hadn't touched the sensor at all, but had just entered the fuser. I hope I gave enough detail, don't know what else I could have tried. As a guess I would try a controller board http://fixyourownprinter.com/posts/47858 first, but would have to order one. Just in case anyone asks, the engine test generated the error as well. Respond to this 2 On this printer the most common cause of this error is the registration assembly. One thing you can try which I have had some success is to raise the lever of the registration assembly and then sort of pull it up to try and ease the pressure of the roller in the assembly. Do it a couple of times and see if the issue goes away. If it does that will confirm that the registration assembly should be replaced. by dmzcompute on May 23, 2007 at 2:14pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 You nailed that one dmzcompute. Went back out there with a registration assy., but didn't need it. As soon as I pulled the toner cartridge out (I hadn't taken it out the first time I was there) I saw the problem. The metal registration flap was folded back. Flipped it forward and everything worked ok. Never would have thought that something like that would cause the problem, or the cartridge would go in with the flap folded back, but it did. You get a well deserved point. by NemTech on May 24, 2007 at 3:54pm Add comment Please sign in

Fusers are a consumable part and are sold as part of a maintenance kit; it is expected over the life of the printer you will replace the fuser several times. HP estimates average fuser life to last between 100,000 to 150,000 pages; but a fuser can fail much earlier depending on printing conditions, heavy paper jams, and the quality hp laserjet of the fuser installed. For a temporary fix, you can try turning your printer off and back on again. Sometimes the reboot will allow the fuser to reset itself and you can print a few more pages. If the 50.1 Fuser error message returns, it's time to replace your fuser. Also, on these LaserJet 5000 & 5100 series printers, when the fuser fails with a 50.1 error we recommend you load tray 1 replace the entire maintenance kit including the paper feed components, NOT just the fuser. It is very common on this model to see the rollers & separation pads wear out, even before the fuser fails. Paper won't feed properly, misfeeds can occur, and if paper jams inside the fuser it can damage the sensitive heating element in the fuser. Better to change ALL the maintenance kit parts at the same time as the fuser, than to just install a new fuser and have the new fuser damaged shortly after because of a bad paper jam.
