awhile, and eventually shows a System Error 51. I don't have the printer error message guide, so can anybody tell me what the error I'm getting means? Thanks... Respond to this 0 There's an error message page in our troubleshooting section. 51 is a beam detect error and 52 is a scanner motor rotational speed error. In either case, our 52 error kit contained in our printer repair kits section will most likely fix the problem. by moe on Jun 28, 2003 at 4:50pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I read that http://www.repairfaq.org/samnew/printfaq/pcfljiipec52.htm an error 51 is a beam detect error. I just put in a new cartridge and upon closing the machine I heard a "snap" and the door that protects the drum had fallen off. I managed to replace the door and consequently print two pages successfully. BUT, after turning my printer on the next day I can't print anything - all I get is an "error 51."Help!?Dennis by unknown http://fixyourownprinter.com/posts/10886 on Dec 4, 2008 at 1:10pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 If you look at the leading edge of the toner cartridge, you'll see a small plastic fin sticking out. That fin opens up the shutter in the laser unit. If the fin is broken off, you'll get the 51 error. I had one once where the fin was there, but adding a short extension to it got rid of the 51 error. The door that came off protects the drum. It also goes up when you close the door and blocks the optical sensor. That's how the printer knows the cartridge is installed. There are 2 other things that can cause the error. The way I determine which one it is, is to listen to the scanner spin up. If it spins up smoothly, then it is a laser PCA at fault. If it spins up noisily or erratically or doesn't spin up at all, then it's a bad scanner motor. by moe on Dec 4, 2008 at 3:00pm Add comment Please sign in to comment Please sign in to comment HP CopyJet M Buy discount ink Buy this printer More HP questions © Copyright 2011-2016, FixYourOwnPrinter.com, Inc. It scans the beam acroos the page. DC controller is power suplly in the printer. You need to take the unit to a service facility if you don't know what these parts are. They are not user servicable parts. 0 LVL 21 Overall: Level 21 Printers and Scanners 8 Message Expert Comment by:briancassin2000-05-08 make sure you have the printer plugged direct to the wall and not into a power strip or surge protector sometimes they can throw false errors on laser printers 0 Message Author Comment by:TawVb2000-05-08 I have a surge protector and I will try and see if removing it helps 0 LVL 21 Overall: Level 21 Printers and Scanners 8 Message Expert Comment by:briancassin2000-05-09 ok keep us posted 0 Message Author Comment by:TawVb2000-05-29 Comment accepted as answer 0 Message Author Comment by:TawVb2000-05-29 Thanks. 0 Write Comment First Name Please enter a first name Last Name Please enter a last name Email We will never share this with anyone. 13:13 PST Question ID: 292817 HP Laser Jet IIIP Printer is giving the message '52 error'. What does this mean and how do I fix it? Answer Subject: Re: HP Laser Jet IIIP Printer Answered By: clouseau-ga on 03 Jan 2004 15:22 PST Hello jany678, Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, HP error codes do not go into great details in their explanation, but usually you can get an idea of the problem from documents available at the HP web site. This page lists all error codes for Laserjet 4V and older printers: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?locale=en_US&taskId=110&prodSeriesId=25489&prodTypeId=18972&objectID=bpl04079 HP LaserJet 4V Series Printers (and Older) - Printer Control Panel Display Status and Error Messages Error 52 states that it applies to all models of Laserjets and notes: "52 Error A temporary error has occurred. Power cycle the printer. On some models pressing the Continue button on the control panel will resume operation. If the error persists, it could indicate an issue with the scanning assembly. Contact a dealer or HP Service Technician." So, if cycling power keeps you going, you can put off a potentially expensive tech repair issue. If it persists, you will most likely need to have it serviced. At Learnthat we find exactly what a scanning assembly is: http://www.learnthat.com/courses/computer/apluscore/printers.html "...The Laser Scanning Assembly holds the laser which shines its light on certain parts of the printer drum. The electrical charge is reduced and the toner attaches itself to the drum where the laser has shined..." Although HP sells maintenance kits for Laser printers and usually require parts replacements at 100,000 copies, the maintenance kit for the IIIP is not user installable and most likely will have no effect on the laser scanning assembly.
