About the only thing you can hp laserjet 5l toner do is remove the cover and remove the two cables to the laser/scanner and reseat them and see what happens. There is also one other thing which may have happened. When you open the front cover, there is a plastic tab which presses in at the top a little to the right of center (I think) which is the switch on the laser/scanner. If that tab has broken off or is bent to one side I think you

will also get the same error. If neither of these work, then the laser/scanner assembly needs to be replaced. I have now got past that problem, but now the top light (orange remains on, after it has fed the paper thru until the top of the paper is exactly under the heating element, between the heating element and the red rubber pressure roller. It the stops there. Why? There is no sensor stuck. Is it perharps an indication od the scanner assembly? First what did you have to do to get rid of the laser/scanner error or what was causing it? Does the feeding of the paper seem smooth. In other words does the pickup roller grab the paper right away or is there a delay? There is a registration sensor located below and to the left of the pickup roller. one button and three indicator lights for the hp 5l and 6l Table 2: Light Status States On Off Blinking The indicator lights exhibit the three status states shown in Table 2. Table 3 provides information on identifying the status of the printer and tasks that can be performed by using the front panel buttons. Table 3: Front panel status and action identification Status Condition Cause Action No lights are on or blinking. The HP LaserJet 5L or 6L series printer is in SleepMode, or the power has been disconnected or disrupted. To print, press and release the front hp laserjet panel button, or send the job to print. If there is still no response, try the following: 2. 3. 4. T5. Disconnect and reconnect the power cord at both ends. Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet. Try a different power outlet. Try a different power cable (the power cable from a video monitor can be used). If there is still no response, contact HP or an authorized service provider for service information. Steady Ready light The printer is ready to hp laserjet 5l print. No action is necessary. However, if the front panel button is pressed and released, a self-test page will print. Steady Data light and blinking Ready light The printer is receiving or processing data. No action is necessary. Solid Data and Ready lights Unprinted data exists in the HP LaserJet 5L or 6L series printer. Press and release the front panel button to print the remaining data. Blinking Data light The printer is in Manual Feed mode. Check that the paper loaded into the printer is the same as the print job requires. Then, press and release the front panel button to print. Steady Error light The printer is out of paper. There is a paper jam. There is no toner cartridge. The printer door is open. Load paper. Clear the paper path. Install the toner cartridge. Close the printer door. Blinking Error light or flashing amber light The page may be too complex for the memory capacity. Briefly press and release the front panel button to resume printing. Some data loss may occur. See the printer driver Help for suggestions regarding printer memory usage. Change the page to make it less complex by reducing the resolution to 300 dpi, try another printer driver such as a HP LaserJet III, or add optional printer memory. All lights solid The printer is indicating an internal problem. Disconnect the printer from the power source for 10 seconds; then reconnect it. If the lights
