When I try to reinstall my original Tiger OS X the 'select a destination' step is blank and there is nothing to select. I'm not worried about the old HD as I had mostly everything backed up - I just want to get this new HD up and running and get my MacBook fixed! I starting to go through cold turkey without it... please help! Answered! View the answer I have this problem too Subscribed to new answers Is this a good question? Mine only has 4 jumper pins and no shunt or anything already on it. Is the problem something to do with the fact that the software isn't reading the hard drive as a 250GB, rather it reads the drive as a 1.8/2TB drive? 08/08/2011 by J Ernesto Having found others with this problem, I think you are right in that it needs a jumper shunt, but how can I get one to put on? 08/08/201

Was the 500GB hard drive new? What was the reason for fitting the 500GB drive, replacing a failed hard drive or an upgrade? Were you careful with the drive flex cable, avoiding pulling it against where it's held by 2 small screws? Knowing the answers to the above may help determine how to resolve your problem. The drive is a new one and the reason for was replacement as well as upgrade. Not sure about the last question. I basically can get to the area in disc utility to partition (format) the HD, I choose to partition 1, hit partition and it says partition failed: input/output error. Really becoming a pain. Any other tips would be great though! thanks techiesteve! Normally thats all thats necessary with a new drive when you only want 1 partition. Will be interesting to see if you get the same error. Steve UK Reply With Quote 10-09-2012,12:19 PM #5 John D. When it is installing I get the message: File system verify or repair failed. I clicked the restart option to boot into my internal HD but tells me its unavailable. I then rebooted, held Command+R to enter disk utility in order to repair the disk, but it tells me it failed and should backup and restore the HD. I then tried to create an image on my external drive but this also fails with the message: Unable to create Macintosh HD.dmg. Do you use TimeMachine to back up your main (internal) drive? –klanomath Dec 9 '14 at 12:54 I can't recall off the top of my head how much I have available but its fairly new so should be plenty. I do have a bootcamp partition though. I have done a number of backups with TimeMachine however when I go into disk utility and TimeMachine it just got stuck on the searching timemachine back up. –Lauren Ross Dec 9 '14 at 13:11 is there a way of going into safe mode and obtaining the files I need? –Lauren Ross Dec 9 '14 at 13:12 Yes, but you have to restart into recovery mode to accomplish that. You may create an image of your internal disk ignoring those errors. But knowing the sizes/free space is essenti
