have a PS/2 keyboard, but it isn't working now. So I replaced it with USB keyboard. The new keyboard works fine. But when I turn on the PC , the first thing that happens is that I get a PS/2 keyboard interface error. The PC asks me to press F1, after which BIOS setup appears. I exit the setup by pressing esc, without making any changes , and the PC starts normally . Is there a way to suppress this warning. (and can it be done from Ubuntu). I couldn't find anything related to keyboard in the BIOS setup. Though there was something related to PS/2 mouse. This problem is since my Windows XP days. I understand this issue isn't OS specific ,hence was a bit apprehensive about posting it at ubuntuforums, but since I have Lubuntu now, I was wondering if there is a way to solve this issue via Lubuntu. If not, whether , it can be done from the BIOS. I am apprehensive about changing anything from BIOS, lest the USB keyboard is not detected. P.S - My PS/2 mouse was also not working , had to replace it too by USB mouse. Last edited by ask_; November 15th, 2011 at 03:51 PM. Either the keyboard controller is bad https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/390508-keyboard-interface-error-press-f1-to-resume or its fuse is blown. This kind of thing used to be fairly common due to the fact that PS2 keyboards and mice have to be plugged in when the system is powered on and users were notorious after USB appeared on the scene for just plugging and unplugging their PS2 keyboards/mice when they had a problem. 0 Mace OP LarryG. Oct 3, 2013 at 4:49 UTC USB is working so you just want to get that error to stop, right? Check in BIOS to see if there is an option to turn off the notification of error on keyboard. Not all of them have it, but it's worth looking. 1 Pimiento OP Kavita9579 Oct 4, 2013 at 4:41 UTC i am not finding any option by which error can be removed. 0 Pimiento OP Kavita9579 Oct 4, 2013 at 4:42 UTC * in BIOS 1 Habanero OP Edward_Elric Oct 4, 2013 at 8:41 UTC So from the sounds of it you may have two options; 1) replacing the motherboard like has been mentioned or 2) putting up with the error message and using a USB keyboard 0 Pimiento OP Kavita9579 Oct 4, 2013 at 9:30 UTC want to ask for knowledge : how this error came ? i was running pagemaker and MSoffice files in this PC, what is cause behind it ? 0 Mace
operate. The progress of the self-test is indicated by a series of POST codes. This chapter explains the BIOS https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19464-01/820-6850-11/POST.html POST testing, provides an alternate method for viewing the codes, describes how to change POST options, and lists the POST codes. This chapter contains the following sections: About POST How BIOS POST Memory Testing Works Redirecting Console Output Changing POST Options POST Codes POST Code LEDs About POST The POST is a systematic check of basic system devices. As interface error the testing progresses, the BIOS displays codes that you can use to interpret the status of your server. The codes appear at the bottom right corner of the system’s VGA screen, after the self-test has progressed far enough to initialize the video monitor. Because the codes might scroll off of the screen too quickly to be read, an alternate method keyboard interface error of displaying POST codes is to redirect the output of the console to a serial port (see Redirecting Console Output). You can also see some of the post codes on LEDs inside the front panel of your server node (see POST Code LEDs). How BIOS POST Memory Testing Works The BIOS POST memory testing is performed as follows: 1. The first megabyte of DRAM is tested by the BIOS before the BIOS code is shadowed (that is, copied from ROM to DRAM). 2. Once executing out of DRAM, the BIOS performs a simple memory test (a write/read of every location with the pattern 55aa55aa). Note - This memory test is performed only if Quick Boot is not enabled from the Boot Settings Configuration screen. Enabling Quick Boot causes the BIOS to skip the memory test. See Changing POST Options for more information. 3. The BIOS polls the memory controllers for both correctable and non-correctable memory errors and logs those errors into the SP. 4. The message BMC Responding appears at the end of POST. Redirecting Console Outp
