This discussion is locked sickdysk Level 1 (0 points) Q: Toast interface error -16434, Medium Error sense Code = 0x73, 0x03 I have a Machine Model: PowerBook G4 15" CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (1.1) Number Of CPUs: 1 CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1 GB Bus Speed: 167 MHz Boot ROM Version: 4.7.1f1 Serial Number: V73**GNRZMATSHITA DVD-R UJ-816: Capacity: 332.09 MB Manufacturer: MATSHITA Model: MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-816 Revision: DXJ3 Serial Number: Drive Type: CD-RW/DVD-RW Disc Burning: Apple Supported/Shipped Removable Media: Yes Detachable Drive: No BSD Name: disk1 Protocol: ATAPI Unit Number: 0 Socket Type: InternalThe problem I have (Toast 6.0) is while I can burn CDs just fine, whenever I try to burn a DVD I get the following errors:Sense Key = Medium Error sense Code = 0x73, 0x03This happens when I try to burn a DVD with no special settings in the recorder settings =best speedandToast interface error -16434I have tried to lower the burn speed (x4 and 1xDVD) and checked buffer underun and when I run a simulation everything is fine but when I try to burn disc using the same settings I get Toast interface error -16434.Any suggestions?-RS< Edited by Host > PowerBook G4 15", Mac OS X (10.3.x) Posted on Dec 8, 2009 2:37 PM I have this question too This site contains user submitted content, comments and opinions and is for informational purposes only. The reasons it tells me are: "The drive reported an error Sense https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2259106?tstart=0 Key = MEDIUM ERROR Sense Code = 0x73, 0x03" and later "Interface Error - 16434 The connection is not stable" Now, I don't have time to trawl through hundreds of drive error posts here or to lose my laptop for two weeks (it's still under warranty) for a fifteen minute repair. Does anyone immediately know whether these are a drive (a standard MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-857E) or perhaps problems with the software Toast Titanium 8.0.3 ? I am searching the web while you read this, but would rather http://forums.macnn.com/69/mac-notebooks/365186/hardware-or-software-error-message/ replace a failing drive immediately than spend days finding a solution only to have to replace the drive anyway. From Apple support comes: "Sense Code = 0x73 0x03 means there is a problem with the laser power calibration. Every disk has section that calibrates the drive's laser to match the media being used. This is done everytime you burn a disk ... and give you some more info. I hope they help." and "I have the same problem. One program says the laser error similiar to yours as the error.
