About a week later, when going to a site java cleanup tool that requires Java, she's prompted to install it. When I try to install it I windows installer cleanup utility windows 7 download the latest version (V6U23) and I get and the error: "Internal Error 2753: regutils.dll" This happens with either the online or offline

install option. Google says that this could be an issue with older versions of Java but there is no older version listed in Programs and Features. But IE has a plug-in for Java. Also, there is nothing about this on Java's site. I'm not sure if this is a Windows thing or Java, since it seems that the 2753 error has shown up for other, non-Java, installs. Anyone see this before? Have you tried doing a registry cleanup and then installing again? Or installing in another admin account? 0 Anaheim OP DogFacedGod Feb 4, 2011 at 3:45 UTC I got it. I tried a registry cleanup utility like you suggested but that didn't work. But I then did a search for "Java" in the registry and deleted the keys that referenced any install file. (After backing up the reg of course). Then Java installed fine. Weird. Thanks for the push in the right direction! 0 Pimiento OP kimsland Nov 26, 2011 at 7:09 UTC 1st Post Installing Java Click HERE to update Java You can find out why you need to update Java HERE Once downloaded just run (to download fully), and install. ---------------------------- Java install sometimes errors! Errors include: 1. "Internal Error 2753. regutils.dll" 2a. "This software has already been installed on your computer. Would you like to reinstall it?" Upon clicking 'Yes' you receive: 2b. "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." 3. More errors stated HERE Very annoying! But there is a Fix Firstly in "Task Manager" > Processes Tab. Kill any/all running Java processes eg. java, jqs, javaws etc Then just download this Java Fix tool > JavaMSIFix.exe and run it. ("Download File" near middle of that page) More (technical) info HERE --------------------

There is a good way to deal with any such type of installation issue with java. I work with Java deployment team and landing into such issues is our day to day job. When on windows platform, definitely the Microsoft tool (windows installer cleanup tool) is useful, I suggest you to try with that first to clean the machine. If that does not work, follow the below steps and then install a fresh copy of java (jre). 1) Delete the jre folder default location would be : C:\Program Files\Java\jre6 (if you have installed in some other location, delete that jre folder). 2) Clean the java files inside windows folder (this step is not really needed and can be skipped even) delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\java.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaw.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\javaws.exe 3) Now the important step which need be done with little care (not recommended but need to do still) Clean the registry entries made by Java.
