I'm completely baffled on what is causing it. I'm new at this so please bear with me. The MS Installer help describes the error as: "The property '[2]' was used as a directory property in one or more tables, but no value was ever assigned." I looked in the directory table using the Power Editor but I don't see any problems there. Any guidance or answer is greatly appreciated. If you've encountered this error you've mostly likely already have Explorer 2007 sp0.0 installed. Go back to https://forum.solidworks.com/thread/15188 the installation manager, let it detect that you want to upgrade Explorer to 2007 sp5.0, before hitting "NEXT" leave the window alone and use "Add/Remove Programs" in your control panel to remove the Explorer 2007 sp0.0 installation. This will get rid of the program and the folders that are creating the 2756 error. When you're done with the uninstall of sp0.0, go back to the installation manager and click next, and let it install sp5.0. There you go! If you try to uninstall sp0.0 before opening the installation manager, it won't detect any Explorer software to upgrade, so it's important to have sp0.0 installed before opening the installation manager. This is also because you can no longer download Explorer 2007, so the SPR Solution (download 2007 sp5.0 after uninstall) is no longer applicable. I think this is the easiest workaround. 1118Views Categories: Data Management, SolidWorks Explorer Tags: none
no value was ever assigned http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4622205/how-to-force-windows-installer-to-replace-a-shortcut-with-a-renamed-one 2756 - The property '[2]' was used as a directory property in one or internal error more tables, but no value was ever assigned You have used a directory key which doesn't exist (in the "Directory" table). One common reason for this is that internal error 2756 you got the case wrong, for example if you used "Windowsfolder" instead of "WindowsFolder". If this is an msi you built then the fact that you are getting this error while installing the msi implies that you may not have performed MSI validation or that you ignored the generated message (review your procedures!). I'm having problems getting the installer to replace the old shortcuts with the new ones. When the problem was initially reported, the new shortcuts were being installed, but the old ones were not being removed. After working on the problem, I'm having a mixed problem: One of the old shortcuts is being removed (so far, so good), but the other one is not (not so good), and in both cases, the new shortcuts are not being installed (even worse). I've tried changing the GUID on each of the components that install these shortcuts, and I've even, at one point, tried changing the ProductCode property in each of the merge modules responsible for the shortcuts, but nothing seems to get the desired behaviour (out with the old and in with the new when upgrading). With just the relevant components re-GUIDed, here is what the log file shows for the install states (to help with the debugging, I've renamed the components slightly so that I can tell which ones are from the old build and which are from the new): ... As you can see in the log, the new shortcuts should be going in in both cases, but they're not. And I'm at a loss to explain why the installer is doing differe
