Join Now I have experienced many VSS writer errors with Server 2012 https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/739920-vss-writer-errors-server-2012 and 2012R2 Specifically, using StorageCraft ShadowProtect on VMWare Host 5.xx with attached USB drive (3.0). https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/27510284/Backups-Failing-a-ton-of-VSS-errors.html I have mitigated the issue to where it now rarely causes a problem. However there are still occurrences of writers going into a failed state. I have only experienced this with Server 2012. ShadowProtect does leverage Microsoft VSS for snapshots. It's possible that some process is locking VSS. Have you opened a case with our Support team yet? If so, would you PM me the case #? Cheers! This removed all unused volume mounts on the server.
