Start the open command and in the opened window, near the Open button there is a button with a small arrow (triangle) pointing down. Press it and choose partial open. Now try to open only one layer. If it works, open the layers one by one until you find the one creating problems. If it doesnt work I have no other solution for you. That preview is nothing. It is only a bitmap image saved with the file. Oh, and welcome in the forum! It's nice to be nice, but sometimes is nicer to be evil! Tip: Please do not PM or email me with CAD quest

a drawing was being opened in AutoCAD 2009 and "saved-as" back to the 2004 format so the other users could open it. When attempting to perform commands on the drawing in in the old 2005 version, however, the following error messages would come up:ARX_ERROR:eNotThatKindOfClass Command not allowed because drawing contains objects from a newer version of Architectural DesktopThe solution, pointed to by various forum threads (such as this one), is to download and install the Object Enabler hotfix from the AutoDesk support site. Doing this immediately resolved the issue in our case.Another possible approach, in case that does not work for you, is to use the exporttoautocad command instead of Save As - see this thread on the AutoDesk forums.
