Internal Error Failed To Initialize Hal Acer Aspire One
LiveUpdate on my new Aspire One. After the update, wifi stopped working. In addition the removable drives (smart cards or keydrives) are no longer recognized. Apparently this is a widespread issue, and not just on the Linux version. A few moments after it finishes booting, the error "Failed to Initialize HAL" is displayed, and a search produced this thread: Re: Live update on 18/9/08 I tried all the suggestions on this and other similar threads, and have pretty much determined that some key files must be missing. Next thing to try will be to restore from the install disks and start over. Note: Recovering the system did fix the problem. Just taken delivery of an Aspire One A110 but on power up I reach the standard desktop screen then a few seconds later get the error "Internal Error - Failed to Initialize HAL!". Most obvious other symptom is that the touchpad is not working but networking also seems to be a problem. This happens everytime I power up. I searched for information on this error and found a suggestion that removing /etc/mtab* might help. There was only one file, mtab, in /etc. Removing this gave me wireless networking but touchpad will not work. Wireless failed again after next power-up. This problem was encountered from the first switching on of a A110, 512MB, 8GB ssd Linpus model. I think I was http://thedesignspace.net/MT2archives/000526.html just ask for a replacement but would be interested in hearing any suggestions to get it working. scotty2, Aug 20, 2009 #1 Advertisements scotty2 Joined: Aug 20, 2009 Messages: 26 No suggestions to overcome HAL error so got a replacement. New unit works fine. I am now in two minds about the operating system, stick with Linpus or try an alternative. AAO is for my daughter who is going off to uni so I need it to be easy to http://www.laptop-forums.com/threads/failed-to-initialize-hal-error-a110-linpus.15511/ use and stable. Linpus is OK as long as you don't try to do anything other than run the standard applications, but after two days setting up I have had to reinstall Linpus back to factory settings. Yet to find a good solutions to using it on a network and recognising/share with other Windows or Linux computers. I like the quick boot time. I have put UNR on a USB stick and run in live mode. This looks like a good option. Just wish the SSD was larger to allow my to dual boot. Anyway, original problem no longer needs to be addressed. scotty2, Aug 27, 2009 #2 Advertisements garrovick Joined: Apr 19, 2009 Messages: 98 This is a Windows OS problem, not a computer hardware problem.
