identifying the root cause and the potential impact to your system. The remaining arguments in the ORA-600 error text are used to supply further information (e.g. values of internal variables etc). Looking for the best way to diagnose? Whenever an ORA-600 error is raised, a trace file is generated and an entry is written to the alert.log with details of the trace file location. As of Oracle 11g, the database includes an advanced fault diagnosability infrastructure to manage trace data. For more detail on this functionality see the FAQ and quick steps video. Check the Alert Log The alert log may indicate additional errors or other internal errors at the time of the problem. Focus your analysis of the problem on the first internal error in the sequence. There are some exceptions, but often additional internal errors are side-effects of the first error condition. The associated trace file may be truncated if the MAX_DUMP_FILE_SIZE parameter is not setup high enough or to „unlimited‟. If you see a message at the end of the trace file "MAX DUMP FILE SIZE EXCEEDED" there could be vital diagnostic information missing in the file and finding the root issue mSQL TuningSecurityOracle UNIXOracle LinuxMonitoringRemote supportRemote plansRemote servicesApplication Server ApplicationsOracle FormsOracle PortalApp UpgradesSQL ServerOracle ConceptsSoftware SupportRemote Support Development Implementation ora-00600 internal error code arguments kcratr_nab_less_than_odr Consulting StaffConsulting PricesHelp Wanted! Introduction ORA-600/ORA-7445/ORA-700 Error Look-up Tool Introduction Oracle trap errors and gives them a specific error number. Looking up this error number in the Database Error Messages manual will typically give you an indication of internal error the cause of the error and the action necessary to fix it. In addition to trapping specific errors, Oracle also has some catch-all error messages that are issued when something unexpected happens, the most important being the following. ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string] ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [string] [string] [string] [string] [string] [string] ORA-00700: soft internal error code internal error, arguments: [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string], [string] These may be caused by something trivial, but they could also indicate something disastrously wrong has happened. It's impossible to tell by just looking at the error message and the description in the Database Error Messages manual. This article explains what you should do if you encounter one of these types of messages. ORA-600/ORA-7445/ORA-700 Error Look-up Tool You should typically use the following process. Log on to My Oracle Support. Go to the ORA-600/ORA-7445/ORA-700 Error Look-up Tool. Select the type of error (ORA-600/ORA-7445/ORA-700), enter the value of the first argument (the value within the first set of square brackets [?????]) and select the database version from the dropdown list. If you want to get around that limitation you'll either need to buy something, such as personal edition, or upgrade to 11g express edition. –Jon Heller Aug 5 '13 at 6:20 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote "I just wonder if this issue can be happened when DBF file size is over 10G." Oracle XE is free but comes with various restrictions. In 10g the limit on User Data was 4GB (citation) , although I would expect that limit to be enforced gracefully. Does that total cover all datafiles i.e. including Undo and Temporary tablespaces? "I added another datafile to the tablespace last week." When you added that additional file did you breach that 4GB User Data limit? Note that in 11g the User Data limit was raised to 11GB, so that would be a good reason for you to upgrade. Check it out. Anyway, ORA-00600 is Oracle's generic message which it throws whenever it encounters unexpected behaviour, i.e. an internal bug. The usual advice for this is to contact Oracle Support but most XE users don't have Support contracts. In which case there is the Oracle TechNet forums, which include a site dedicated to XE issues. Find it here. There should be more information in the Alert Log. You can find the Alert Log in the background dump directory. If you don't know where that is, locate it in
