'11 at 13:41 ComfortablyNumb 74332449 I have just discovered that any button on my site with PostBackUrl "url" comes up with the same error. I must have screwed something up!! –ComfortablyNumb Oct 26 '11 at 13:51 site works in Firefox! –ComfortablyNumb Oct 26 '11 at 14:13 axd files are empty in both IE and Chrome but not in Firefox. The error occurs on both the local test server and the live server. –ComfortablyNumb Oct 26 '11 at 15:50 Just to be safe, use G rated language. –James Johnson Oct 26 '11 at 17:49 Is there error happening when the site is hosted under IIS? If it's on a test or staging server, have you verified that the latest version of the .NET framwork is installed? –James Johnson Oct 26 '11 at 17:52 | show 5 more comments 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote I never actually found what was causing every button with a postback to generate the error. However I did find that an earlier version was working OK. So I reconsrtructed the site, page by page and the error went. Bar one! This was on the order page and generated the same error (empty axd files etc). But this time I was able to track it down to this section of cod
1, 200614 0 0 0 Issue ==== I recently got an issue where customer ASP.NET 2.0 website on IIS and on one of the aspx pages he was using RangeValidator control. Browsing to that aspx page was giving client side Java script errors ‘Webform_Postbackoptions is undefined’. Without RangeValidator application was just working fine. Cause ==== WebResources.axd was not getting downloaded to ‘Temporary Internet Files’ folder. Fiddler showed 500 Status for the WebResources.axd. IIS Logs showed http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7903474/webform-postbackoptions-is-undefined-error-on-asp-net-website nothing in my case. When directly browsed to this file it gave errors in one of the events called AcquireRequestState in Global.asax file sitting under App_Code directory. Error was related to session state because an AXD file doesn’t have any session state handler associated. Resolution ======= Commented out AcquireRequestState event and now webresources.axd https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/paraga/2006/02/01/getting-webform_postbackoptions-is-undefined-errors-in-asp-net-2-0/ is successfully downloading in ‘Temporary Internet Files’ folder. Note:- Fiddler tool can be downloaded from http://www.fiddlertool.com/dl/FiddlerSetup.exe. It's a great tool to troubleshoot client side issues. I did have same problem, I hope I will get solution fromt this tool. Thanks again. Raj Gohil Reply Russell says: February 14, 2006 at 11:20 am I am glad somebody has addressed this issue. If I comment out AcquireRequestState the javascript error goes away, but when I uncomment the event it continues to be broken. Obviously this will not work for me because I need that event. Do you have any idea how to resolve this issue? Any help would be appreciated. Suchit shah replied to anant ashish on 17-Dec-11 01:52 AM if there's anything going on in your app that is preventing access to webresource.axd, then your page will be missing scripts. have you added an html gzip compression module? or added something for security that might be blocking the request for webresource.axd? Please make sure the WebResource.axd file is correct. You can try to download this file from the link I mentioned above.
