There is a live version of the site running on a Windows server. In the web pages, often the Javascript will reference a form on the page using the style document.formName, where formName is the

name of the form. As far as I know, this is a cross-browser method, along with document.forms.formName and document.forms[0] and so forth. On my local development site, the reference document.frm1 (I know, bad naming practice) errors out; it is undefined. On the other hand, document.forms.frm1 works fine. Strangely, this doesn't occur on the server, although both pages are identical as far as the code goes. I've double checked with Firebug, and in both IE8 and Firefox 6. Another weird part: checking with Firebug, document.frm1 is undefined, but document.frmClose (another form) exists! Huh?! Anyone experienced this before? javascript asp.net share|improve this question edited Feb 11 '13 at 0:14 John Saunders 138k20177323 asked Sep 15 '11 at 19:21 voithos 24.7k54681 why all this pain when you can be cross browser and cross platform in a flash using JQuery? for example: $('#myForm') should give you the form... in all browsers. –Davide Piras Sep 15 '11 at 19:24 Could we see the HTML?...Sounds like you have some invalid HTML. –John Hartsock Sep 15 '11 at 19:25 1 @Davide Piras - you s

I am simply trying to get the value of the checkbox in window.onload. For that, I do this: window.onload = function() { var checkboxValue = document.myForm.chkMyCheckbox.checked; } On loading the page, I receive the error "document.myForm is undefined". If I'm referencing the form after the page is loaded, why am I seeing this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/30735937/document-form-element-is-undefined error? javascript html share|improve this question asked Jun 9 '15 at 15:07 kittyhawk 347319 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote You should try using document.onload instead of window.onload. document.onload is when the DOM is ready, hence myForm will be instantiated and shouldn't be undefined at that point. document.onload = function() { var checkboxValue = document.myForm.chkMyCheckbox.checked; } share|improve this answer answered Jun 9 '15 at 15:10 richardgirges 437310 When I put document.onload = function(){ alert('loaded');} into my page, it never fires (or the alert never displays). –kittyhawk Jun 9 '15 at 15:37 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service.
