I have created http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13275598/i-cant-open-js-files-in-windows-from-filezilla a file named myFirst.js after installing node.js in Windows machine. The file looks like following : console.log("Sweet .. Welcome to Node.js"); But when I try to navigate to that directory and execute the file it throws an error like the following : Even a command like is not working. What am I missing ? How would I execute my first node.js code block ? javascript node.js share|improve this question asked Nov 28 '15 at 19:10 StrugglingCoder 7391618 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/33975327/microsoft-jscript-runtime-error-code-800a1391-console-is-undefined-while-r 2 Looks like you're running the code with Windows Script Host and not Node. –Pointy Nov 28 '15 at 19:22 @Pointy How to run it via node ... ? Could you show me ? –StrugglingCoder Nov 29 '15 at 10:37 I certainly would if I could; I've never used Node on Windows. Perhaps if you knew the absolute path to the real Node executable, you'd type that followed by the name of your JavaScript code. I think that would work. –Pointy Nov 29 '15 at 14:45 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote You must prefix your execution of the *.Js file with the node executable to add context, as if to say, "open this file with the node scripting engine, rather than the default Microsoft scripting engine, which does not recognize the 'console' object." Therefore, instead of simply providing the name of the .Js file, like so: myFirst.js Change it to: node myFirst.js The name of the *.js file acts as a parameter to the node executable, which is then executed, providing you with your "Sweet.. Welcome to Node.js" statement. share|improve this answer edited Mar 7 at 2:21 Mogsdad 24.6k955123 answered Mar 7 at 1:53 HALAR 11 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign

Ender member rvagg commented Aug 5, 2012 Hi @srsgores, where/how are you running this, is this error from Internet Explorer or are you trying to execute the file in Windows? srsgores commented Aug 5, 2012 I'm running this on Windows 8 via the command line. I only get this message when typing ender info or ender build with jeesh installed. Ender member rvagg commented Aug 5, 2012 ok, so it looks like what's happening is that Windows is interpreting your "ender" command as ./ender.js rather than the actual Ender executable. Which is not what you need, because the ender.js that you've built is for the browser, not for the commandline. A couple of ways around this: (1) supply the full path to ender, wherever Node has installed it (I don't know off the top of my head where Node on Windows puts executables), (2) use the --output option to build to a file with a different name, then you can use --use for 'info' and 'ref

I did double-click the downloaded file (angular.js) out of curiosity and got the error mentioned by this issue. I'm assuming @lupster12 browser tries to run before downloading. Narretz commented Aug 11, 2015 Thx @maumorales I think your explanation is spot on. It's a bit weird how IE handles this. Firefox actually opens the file in the browser, only Chrome opens the download dialog. Maybe we need to make this consistent. - Actually, the problem is that IE and Firefox don't support the download attribute as good as Chrome does.
