Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try. Was this answer helpful? Category:Camera and Video Share this conversation Expert: Russell A. replied5 years ago. Hi,The lack of movement indicates that the lens error is shutting down the start up process. It may be misaligned or an internal component has failed. Here are a couple of links to some other things to try. With newer cameras I am usually http://www.justanswer.com/video-camera-repair/4tbb9-power-shot-a2000-lens-error-restart-camera-lens-stuck.html hesitant to suggest these options since they include some more extreme procedures that may cause further damage if not done correctly, but since yours is probably no longer under warranty, they may save you an expensive repair bill. An older Canon camera is used to demonstrate these procedures but, the lens structure of these compact cameras is the same so the examples do apply to this unit. These procedures are effective about 60% of the time. Click on or copy and paste the links into your browser. FIX 1FIX 2If the "do it yourself" approach doesn't work out for you and you need conventional repair you can get an online estimate at the two links and please see the note belowwww.precisioncamera.comhttp://www.unitedcamera.com/canon-powershot-a2000-is/#ShowSelectionsNote: Considering the age and present value of this camera, paying the cost of having it repaired , approximately $90 is probably not worth it . The standard "rule of thumb" is if the repair cost is greater than 50% of the value of the camera, it is not worth it. A good used or refurbished Canon Powershot A2000is can be purchased for around $75 - $100 If, and only if my answer to your question is helpful and you are Satisfied with it, please click the green Accept button and leave Positive

GeĆ¼pload op 26 feb. 2012My Canon Powershot Camera gave me this fatal lens error restart camera error message. Restarting the camera doesn't do anything. A big thank you to the folks that helped me fix it. Where I live there is no place that fixes these camera. I had a really great repair experience fixing it with this particular place, they just specialize in the Canon Powershot cameras only and they fixed the thing perfectly! I wanted to share my experience with others as I know I am not the only one to have to deal with this lens error problem. I sent them my video but since they can't post it, I thought to put it up myself. For those of you that are having this lens error thing, the site I used was terrific and they were way less than Canon for the repair, plus

The error message given is simply "Lens Error, Restart Camera" or "e18 error".See this site for all the error reports:http://e18.bitnet.cx/comments.phpGoogle "canon" and "E18" for more information. Here's a PC World report on the problem:http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,124765-page,1/article.htmlClass action lawsuit:http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2005/canon_class.htmlThe point of my posting these links is that a certain percentage of people who buy this canon WILL end up getting the e18 and will lose all their investment. Ordinarily that would be acceptable, you would just send it back to Canon and get a new one. But because Canon refuses to admit this is a problem and Canon will not fix it for free, this problem becomes a fatal one. So when you buy one of these cameras I think you should be aware of the risks involved. That is why I posted all these links.I understand why Canon is not admitting this
