Restarting the camera doesn't do anything. A big thank you to the folks that helped me fix it. Where I live there is no place that fixes these camera. I had a really great repair experience fixing it with this particular place, they just specialize in the Canon Powershot cameras only and they fixed the thing perfectly! I wanted to share my experience with others as I know I am not the only one to have to deal with this lens error problem. I sent them my video but since they can't post it, I thought to put it up myself. For those of you that are having this lens error thing, the site I used was terrific and they were way less than Canon for the repair, plus they service up the camera when it is in being fixed. The camera is performing flawlessly now and I am again a happy camper! Categorie Mensen & blogs Licentie Standaard YouTube-licentie Meer weergeven Minder weergeven Laden... If you don't have a card reader in your computer(s), they are available inexpensively, for example: amazon.com/Mini-Memory-Card-Reader-Writer/dp/B000FNDWLQ/… –coneslayer May 6 '11 at 13:54 2 I got this issue with my camera too, when my son dropped it in the sand. The lens mechanism retraction is very fragile. One grain of sand is enough to break the camera. In our case, we got the camera for less than a week, so we retur

How do I lens error fix this? Share this conversation Expert: Bernie replied4 years ago. Hello and welcome, my name isXXXXX'm sorry to hear about your problem. This can happen because of misaligned lens, but it may also point to hardware failure on the camera. Please click the link below and read the introduction, then try only steps 1-5 listed on that page:LINKNote that the model shown in the procedure may not be your exact model but the same steps and principles will still lens error restart apply. If steps 1-5 don't get rid of the error, and your camera is still within it's warranty (normally 1 year), or you have an extended warranty, it is best to use that to have the camera repaired, so please do not go past step 5 as it may void your warranty. Otherwise, if your camera is out of warranty, you may save yourself repair costs by proceeding past step 5 to the rest of the solutions. Just be very careful as it describes, some procedures can further damage the camera if done improperly.More than half the time these extended procedures can get rid of the lens error, however in some cases, even after following all the steps you may still find that you have the lens error. In this case you will need to send it into a repair shop, like the one at the link below:LINK2 You may find that the repair cost outweighs the cost of a brand new camera, so the above link will give you a quote first to help you decide whether or not the repair is worth it. Hopefully it does not come to repair/replacement, if it does I'm sorry there was not another fix, unfortunately the lens hardware is quite delicate and can become damaged easily. If I can be of any further assistance, please ask me anything you need. Ask Your Own Camera and Video

Note that even if your camera was produced by another manufacturer, and not Canon, you can still use our instructions to repair the lens error. This web site's mission is to provide a source of information and help for the Canon lens error. Canon lens error is usually reported as E18 error. The problem is common for most cameras with telescopic lens barrel. Other manufacturers might have a different name for the same problem (lens error, access error, zoom error, lens obstructed, focus error...). Some cameras only display a numerical error, such as E18. Due to the common nature of this problem, it seems that Canon has dropped the numerical marking of this error in newer cameras, and is now using the term "lens error". We will explain our procedure for getting rid of the lens error on the example of Canon cameras, however, note that our repair instructions can also be applied to cameras produced by other manufacturers as well. Canon lens error (E18 error) happens when the lens gets stuck while trying to extend or retract. The problem can happen due to a number of reasons: If dirt or sand get into the lens mechanism If a a user dropps his or her camera with the lens extended Another reason is turning on the camera in a situation where the lens cannot extend fully, like, inside the camera case or a pocket Or if the batteries run out while the camera is being turned on or off. So the batteries run out while the lens is extending or retracting. Older models of Canon camera will beep a few times and the LCD will display a small "E18" sign in the lower-left corner of the display. Some cameras might not beep or show any message, depending on the manufacturer and model. The lens will get stuck in the extended position, and refuse to move either to focus the
