repair instructions here or you can continue reading to learn more about the lens error, what it is and how it is created. Note that even if your camera was produced by another manufacturer, and not Canon, you can https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLR1sLff4bM still use our instructions to repair the lens error. This web site's mission is to provide a source of information and help for the Canon lens error. Canon lens error is usually reported as E18 error. The problem is common for most cameras with telescopic lens barrel. Other manufacturers might have a different name for the same problem (lens error, access error, zoom error, lens obstructed, focus error...). Some cameras only display a numerical error, such as E18. http://www.e18error.com/ Due to the common nature of this problem, it seems that Canon has dropped the numerical marking of this error in newer cameras, and is now using the term "lens error". We will explain our procedure for getting rid of the lens error on the example of Canon cameras, however, note that our repair instructions can also be applied to cameras produced by other manufacturers as well. Canon lens error (E18 error) happens when the lens gets stuck while trying to extend or retract. The problem can happen due to a number of reasons: If dirt or sand get into the lens mechanism If a a user dropps his or her camera with the lens extended Another reason is turning on the camera in a situation where the lens cannot extend fully, like, inside the camera case or a pocket Or if the batteries run out while the camera is being turned on or off. So the batteries run out while the lens is extending or retracting. Older models of Canon camera will beep a few times and the LCD will display a small "E18" sign in the lower-left corner of the display. Some cameras might not beep or show any message, depending on the manufacturer and model. The lens will get stuck in the extended position, and refuse to move either to focus the lens or to retract when powered off. In

Yes No Voted Undo Score 8 Cancel Comments: I'm also experiencing this error message, however... • the camera turns on, • the lens extends outwards, • the lens contracts inwards, • the camera turns off... I did notice the superficial disfigurement that is on the outer shell of the lens, but this shouldn't cause this error as on occasions, the camera turns on, the lens extends outwards, and I can snap a few pictures, unless I aim the camera in any direction other than straight ahead - if not straight ahead, the lens contracts inwards & camera turns off. 12/10/2015 by Frae Guile Add a comment 0/1024 Cancel Post comment Are you sure you want to delete this zzzzzz? Normally this is a problem with the lens exte
of the most common failure modes for digital cameras. You may get a message on your LCD screen that states "E18 Error" or "Lens Error, Restart Camera." Depending on the make and model of your digital camera, the camera may beep as the lens goes in and out, or the lens may not even move at all. The most common culprit for a lens error is some kind of obstruction that is interfering with the lens extension mechanism. If you dropped your digital camera with the lens extended, a lens error message may also appear on your screen. Here are some troubleshooting tips for when this occurs: Cleaning If there is any dirt, sand, grit, etc. stuck around the lens barrel, it will be very difficult for the camera lens to extend. Using a microfiber cloth, you can clean the camera lens and try to clean around the lens and in the barrel. You can also try using compressed air to forcibly blow out any obstructions that are located around the lens barrel. If you choose this method, you must ensure that none of the compressed air touches the lens itself, as the pressure of the compressed air may damage your lens. Batteries Remove the batteries from your digital camera and wait a few minutes. Place brand new batteries in the digital camera and turn it on. If you still get an error message, turn the digital camera off and turn it back on while holding the function or OK button. If that doesn't work, remove the memory card and keep it removed for a few minutes. Make sure that you have brand new batteries in the camera. When you turn the camera back on, you will most likely receive an error message due to the memory card being removed. That is okay, as sometimes the error message from not having a memory card loaded will trigger a reset. To see if this has worked, place the memory card back into the digital camera and power it on again. Audio/Video Cables When you purchased your digital camera, an audio/video (AV) cable should have came with the camera. Take that cable and plug it into the the AV input slot on your digital camera. By inserting the AV cable, you are ensuring that the LCD display does not turn on. The
