I know some people are just getting the lens error restart camera error message for no reason but I'll be honest in that I dropped mine and it broke. I tried a lot of the suggestions online and none of them worked for mine. Many sites say to hit the camera, I'm no expert but I wouldn't do that. I did try blowing air into the lens though and I tried pressing on the lens a little, all that seemed pretty useless. I decided to get it repaired and it was actually a great option so I thought to share my experience. Hi,While the lens appears to be extended, it most likely does not reach the correct sensor point and is causing a shutdown. Lens errors are a common problem. Dirt can get into the gears or the lens can become misaligned from being carried in pockets, lens error fix purses or from impact. Start out by holding the camera "lens down" and lightly tapping the body while switching it on and off. Next try canned compressed air in the space between the lens barrel and the camera body. With newer cameras I am hesitant to suggest using the more invasive of these options since they include some more extreme procedures that may cause further damage the unit and void the warranty, if not done correctly, but with the older one, they may save you an expensive repair bill. The link below gives step by step DIY instructions on troubleshooting and attempting to fix this problem. A Canon camera is used to demonstrate these procedures so, the lens structure of these compact cameras is the same so the examples do apply to this unit.
