Restarting the camera doesn't do anything. A big thank you to the folks that helped me fix it. Where I live there is no place that fixes these camera. I had a really great repair experience fixing it with this particular place, they just specialize in the Canon Powershot cameras only and they fixed the thing perfectly! I wanted to share my experience with others as I know I am not the only one to have to deal with this lens error problem. I sent them my video but since they can't post it, I thought to put it up myself. For those of you that are having this lens e

Canon Ixus Lens Error Will Shutdown Automatically
appreciated, and karma will prevail! This has to be THE most common failure mode for a digital camera, a stuck lens, jammed lens, or a malfunctioning lens. Some common error messages that might show up on the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLR1sLff4bM LCD's of cameras with this problem include "E18 lens error" (older Canon Powershot), "ACCESS" error (Sony Cybershot), "Zoom Error" (Fuji Finepix), "Lens Obstructed" (Kodak Easyshare), "lens error, restart camera" or just "lens error" (Nikon Coolpix and some other camera makers lately are using this variation). Some cameras might show nothing at all, but merely make a beeping noise as the lens goes out, then in, then the camera shuts off. Sometimes the lens won't even move. http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html The problem is actually quite common throughout all camera brands. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended. Believe it or not, one BIG contributor to lens errors is using a camera case. Sand, gunk, case fibers, etc... accumulate at the bottom of the case. These materials love to cling to the camera by electrostatic build-up from the camera rubbing against the side of the case (especially those cases with soft fibrous intreriors). Once these materials work their way into the lens mechanism, that's all she wrote. I have many Canon's, and NEVER use a case for this very reason. Note that this problem applies to ALL cameras with telescopic lens barrel (optical) zoom. With Samsung's release of the Galaxy S4 Zoom, I'm really curious to see if this will also be a issue/problem with this camera phone (and other phones with optical zoom). I predict (on June 16, 2013) that it will, as most people carry their phones in pockets and purses. If it occurs, Fix 5a would likely be the best technique to correct this problem. A camera owner that suffers this problem may have no recourse
modified the steps slightly to cater for the Canon IXUS 80IS. With the right tools this should take about 30 Minutes. It is a fairly easy job. Tools: a small phillips screwdriver, a small flat screwdriver, tweezers, ideally a small compressor or an http://canonixus80lensfix.blogspot.com/ aerosol of compressed air ( gas will do at a push or failing that lungs). 1. Take http://www.justanswer.com/video-camera-repair/3bnjy-camera-ixus-85is-keeps-saying-restart-lens-error-pls.html out the battery. 2. Undo the six screws holding the facia on to the camera: 3: Remove front and back facia and wrist strap clip. 4: Remove the silver retaining screw securing the external black frame to the LCD screen. 5: Remove the black frame (on right). 6: Remove the silver retaining screw that secures the flash unit to the housing (circled). 7: Gently disconnect the ribbon cable from lens error the flash unit using tweezers, you may find that by going straight to step 8 the cable will automatically disconnect during the removal of the flash unit from the housing. However, be aware that this cable is one of two causes of the resistance when you do remove it and go easy. 8: Use a flat head screwdriver to gently lever the clip as in the image and pull the flash unit from the top out of the housing. The ribbon cable has already been lens error restart disconnected from the top right near my index finger. The flash unit will still be connected at the bottom of the camera. There is no need to remove further. 9: The lens gears will now be exposed. Mine had sand or grit in them. You can just make this out in the image. I used a cotton bud and compressed air to clean as best as I could, then carefully used a flat head screwdriver to turn the black gear anti-clockwise a few times, cleaning the gears as above on each turn. At first there was resistance due to the grit, but once cleaned it rotated fairly easily. It would be wise to use a cleaner screwdriver than the one in the image! I attemped to move the white gear but it did not play. I would have tried this further had the camera stiil not worked. 10: Reposition the flash unit and reconnect the ribbon cable using a flat head screwdiver to press it in using the lugs on the plug. This is easier than it sounds. 11: Put the battery back in and test. If you get the same error it does not work go back to step 7 and try again. It took me 2 or 3 attempts to get it right. 12: Before reassemblingI gave the camera a blast of compressed air to get rid of the accumulation of dirt etc. There was a lot around the zoom switch area (circled) 13: Make sure that the toggle switch on the rea

Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand or other dirt etc3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 2 minutes and refitIf no luck then we have to try some things that could possibly result in damaging your camera so should only be tried if happy to take that risk...5. Try thumping the camera into your other hand, by thumping into your hand you are trying to jar the mechanism loose, by using your hand you will hopefully not do it too hard or it will hurt. You may need to do this a dozen or so times in different places to work. I have found the flat of the camera bottom into the flat of your hand best..6. If the lens is stuck in the out position then remove the batteries and try twisting the lens first one way then the other, do not apply excessive force when doing this or you can break gears, you are trying to reposition not force... Likewise if the lens looks like it is crooked you ca
